Zachry Engineer Corporation (ZEC) is currently seeking a talented and self-motivated Lead Electrical Engineer with power plant design experience to join our Electrical Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to lead challenging and high-impact design projects within the Power industry.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering design for power generation projects from concept through commissioning
  • Develop and review electrical system designs including power distribution, protection, grounding, lighting, and controls interfaces
  • Plan, assign, and manage work for electrical engineers and designers to meet project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Review and approve calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documents for quality and compliance
  • Coordinate electrical design activities with mechanical, civil, structural, I&C, and construction disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements (NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA)
  • Estimate engineering effort, quantities, and material requirements; support project budgeting and forecasting
  • Support equipment procurement, including technical evaluations and vendor coordination
  • Participate in constructability reviews, hazard analyses, and design reviews
  • Provide technical support to construction, commissioning, and startup teams, including field visits as required
  • Interface with clients, project managers, and leadership on engineering progress and technical decisions
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience in power generation or industrial projects
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure
  • Prior experience leading electrical engineering scope and project teams
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE/ANSI, and NEMA standards
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment and systems
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lead Engineer experience on EPC projects
  • 10+ years of experience in power generation (combined cycle, fossil, renewable, or cogeneration)
  • Experience with electrical system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP)
  • Experience with switchyards, large transformers, generator circuit breakers, and utility interconnections
  • Electrical equipment procurement experience
