What This Role Is About
We’re hiring an Editor-in-Chief with extensive experience in journalism, a strong understanding of the publishing industry and its changing landscape. This key role is an EQUITY will oversee the content strategy, manage editorial teams, and ensure high-quality content creation and production. We are looking for a managing editor who combines the innovativeness of a writer with the practical focus of an operations manager. You should be able to suggest content ideas and see them through to publication. You will be responsible for reviewing articles and photographs/videos, contributing to editorial pieces, managing day-to-day operations, and overseeing all editorial for web content and magazine. To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate accurate writing and editing skills, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional organizational and leadership skills. You are a strategic thinker who possesses creative problem-solving ability, good judgment and great interpersonal skills.We are strongly committed to hiring a diverse and multicultural team.   • Compensation: 100% Equity (Stock Options granted with a four-year vesting schedule). No cash salary at this time. Equity terms to be finalized prior to onboarding.

What You’ll Do

  • Have the ability to create something new and innovative.

  • Develop and implement the overall content strategy for the magazine in order to achieve circulation and advertising targets while ensure it aligns with the company’s goals for growth.

  • P&L responsibility for the magazine, including management of costs and revenues.

  • Develop editorial concepts in line with the magazine’s positioning and target audience, commissioning articles and features as appropriate.

  • Write or edit articles for the online magazine as required.

  • Work with the design team to produce an attractive and visually appealing digital publication.

  • Manage daily digital content and copy flow.

  • Manage relationships with key advertisers, developing creative solutions to meet their needs.

  • Negotiate and manage sponsorship deals and other commercial partnerships.

  • Organize and attend industry events, trade shows and conferences on behalf of the magazine.

  • Monitor competitor activity for both print and digital magazines and keep up-to-date with industry trends.

  • Grow team by hiring, training and overseeing the work of the magazine’s editorial staff, providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Motivate and manage a high-performing team, setting annual objectives and conducting regular performance reviews.

What You Have

  • 8-10 years of experience in the publishing industry, with a focus on digital magazine publishing.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.

  • Proven track record of successful magazine launches and multitasking.

  • Publishing experience. We are looking for a candidate that has multimedia journalism and content production experience with a strong understanding of digital publishing platforms and trends.

  • and influence over editorial, content creation and copywriting.

  • Extensive network. You have a vast network of contacts within the publishing industry.

  • Critical thinker. You creatively solve business problems, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Leadership. Proven experience in editorial leadership and content creation. You bring a vision to your work and are able to lead multiple projects and motivate internal teams to meet deadlines and targets.

  • Deep cultural competence. You have the ability to relate to really diverse groups of people experiencing hardships like scarcity, stigma and disability.

  • Operational excellence. You understand what is necessary to scale a brand across a dozen channels and deep into a product that itself does many things for many different people.
