The Opportunity

As a Director within the Strategy & Innovation organization, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of the USAA Federal Savings Bank and Member Value organization. You will partner with executive leadership to define long-term strategy, solve complex business challenges, and drive alignment across the enterprise.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution—combining internal consulting, external insights, and cross-functional leadership to deliver measurable business value. You will help identify growth opportunities, manage strategic risk, and ensure the organization is positioned to respond to evolving member needs and competitive dynamics.

This position offers a flexible work environment requiring in-office presence four days per week. The role may be based in San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; or Charlotte, NC.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What You’ll do:

Shape Strategic Direction

  • Support the development and evolution of enterprise and line-of-business strategies, including long-term vision, priorities, and strategic choices
  • Contribute to the design and communication of the three-year strategic plan, including growth objectives and investment priorities
  • Facilitate executive alignment on key decisions, trade-offs, and business model evolution

Solve High-Impact Strategic Problems

  • Lead internal consulting engagements aligned to enterprise and line-of-business priorities, including executive-level initiatives
  • Structure complex problems, develop hypotheses, and deliver data-driven insights and recommendations
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and benchmarking to inform strategic decisions

Drive Alignment & Execution

  • Translate strategy into actionable initiatives, roadmaps, and performance frameworks
  • Drive alignment across Product, Risk, Technology, Finance, Marketing, and Operations teams
  • Support prioritization and execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes
  • Enhance visibility, clarity, and adoption of strategic priorities across the organization

Manage Strategic Risk & External Perspective

  • Monitor industry trends, macroeconomic shifts, member needs, and competitive dynamics
  • Identify strategic risks and opportunities and recommend proactive responses
  • Support scenario planning, risk assessment, and strategic performance monitoring

Enable Enterprise Collaboration

  • Drive coordination across lines of business and shared services to ensure integrated strategy and execution
  • Support cross-functional initiatives, partnerships, and enterprise-wide programs
  • Build strong relationships across all levels of the organization to influence outcomes
  • Mentor and develop junior team members

What You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting, or corporate strategy
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and influence senior leaders
  • Strong analytical, structured problem-solving, and financial modeling capabilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentations
  • Experience working in a matrixed and regulated environment (financial services preferred)

  • Experience in retail banking, lending, payments, deposits, or commercial banking, with familiarity across core products such as credit cards, consumer lending (personal, auto, mortgage, home equity), and deposit products (checking, savings, CDs)
  • Experience with innovation, digital transformation, or emerging technologies
  • Proven experience in strategy development, internal consulting, product strategy, or product management within a top-tier consulting firm or financial institution, with demonstrated success driving growth strategies, strategic roadmaps, and portfolio optimization
  • Strong ability to evaluate complex, ambiguous business challenges—such as credit card profitability, loan portfolio performance, or deposit growth—and translate insights into clear, actionable strategies and business cases
  • Advanced analytical capabilities, including use of data, customer segmentation, lifecycle metrics, and market intelligence to inform strategic decisions and improve business performance
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to synthesize complex topics into clear, compelling narratives and influence senior leaders across Product, Risk, Finance, Technology, and Operations
  • Proven ability to lead in fast-paced, ambiguous environments while managing multiple high-impact initiatives, including growth strategies, transformation efforts, or large-scale enterprise programs
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in strategy, consulting, or financial services

Compensation

Salary range: $164,780-$314,960

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
