The Release Train Engineer (RTE) at The Hartford is a pivotal role responsible for leading the Agile Release Train (ART) and ensuring the successful delivery of technology solutions for the Middle and Large Business Insurance transformation programs. This role goes beyond the traditional Chief Scrum Master responsibilities, focusing on end-to-end delivery visibility and leveraging AI to drive innovation and efficiency. The RTE is a servant leader and coach for the ART, facilitating program-level processes and execution, managing risks and dependencies, and driving continuous improvement. This role is crucial in aligning technology strategies, including Gen AI, with business goals and ensuring the ART delivers maximum value. The RTE focuses on delivering value by managing and facilitating program-level processes, execution, innovation, program dashboard management, team integrations, risk management, and continuous improvement. The RTE is an educator within The Hartford of Agile and automation best practices. They maintain a strong connection with people outside the organization to bring innovative strategies, recent research, data, and tools that can continue to mature Agile at The Hartford, especially increasing productivity and enabling Quality Engineering Practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead large-scale technology transformation programs and solve complex use cases using GCP AI Platform/Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock, and Microsoft Azure CoPilot.

  • Manage relationships with Product Managers, AVPs and VPs of IT Management, the Lean Portfolio Manager, and other leaders, ensuring alignment across roadmap planning, prioritization of features, benefit realization, epic status, and key risks.

  • Drive agile maturity at the program level, including planning periodic reviews and planning sessions with team and product stakeholders, such as ART Synch, Release Planning, System Demos & Solution Demos, the Inspect & Adapt Workshops, and the Scrum of Scrums.

  • Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning readiness and the PI Planning Event, optimizing readiness by fostering preparation of Vision, Backlogs, Roadmap, and Ideation processes.

  • Collaborate with the appropriate individuals to translate business strategy into technology strategy and ensure that capabilities required by the business are enabled.

  • Identify enterprise-level continuous improvement opportunities and drive alignment and implementation.

  • Execute on workforce transformation strategies, including vendor resources, to increase productivity and improve technical understanding where necessary to achieve an optimum balance.

  • Track and communicate key ART and Engineering metrics consistent with governance standards, using data insights to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Ability to assess and mitigate risks (such as bias) in AI-generated outputs.

  • AI enhanced Data Analysis: Ability to use generative AI tools (for example, Microsoft Copilot integrated in Power BI) to transform raw data into actionable insights.

  • Requirements Elicitation & Documentation: Leveraging generative AI to automate and enhance the drafting of business requirements, process maps, and reports.

  • Prompt Crafting: Understanding of designing prompts or agents that help extract domain specific insights from AI systems

  • Debugging & Verification: Leveraging AI tools (e.g., Chat GPTs or copilot tools for code troubleshooting) to identify bugs and validate system behaviors.

  • Tool Integration: Familiarity with integrating AI driven testing tools into existing CI/CD pipelines

  • Risk Analysis: Evaluating the reliability of AI generated checkouts and ensuring they align with quality standards.

  • Continuous Learning: Staying updated with rapid advances in generative AI and best practices for their secure and ethical implementation.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of IT leadership experience executing large scale programs and change management.

  • Proven track record as a results-oriented IT leader that collaborates well with business leaders and manages business outcomes.

  • Deep knowledge of technology, software Engineering, and experience in Scaled Agile methodology required

  • Strong understanding of business strategy and aligning technology roadmaps to business

  • Strong people leadership abilities with skills in coaching and mentoring talent

  • Ability to successfully work across all levels of the organization, including interacting with senior management

  • Proven ability to manage complex vendor relationships and experience working with an offshore delivery model

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and thorough attention to detail

  • Proven Leadership through IT Transformations in building, managing and scaling teams to deliver outcomes

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$136,800 - $205,200
