Censys’ mission is to be the one place to understand everything on the internet. Frustrated by the lack of trustworthy Internet intelligence, we set out to create the industry’s most comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date map of the Internet. Today, Censys delivers real-time Internet intelligence and actionable threat insights to global governments, over 50% of the Fortune 500, and leading threat intelligence providers worldwide.
Censys is searching for a strategic, principled, and hands-on Director of Product Design to lead our design organization. In this role, you’ll define the vision, structure, and direction for product design across our suite of enterprise products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Research, and GTM to shape exceptional user experiences in a complex, evolving cybersecurity space. In this role, you’ll lead a team of talented product designers, drive an insights-informed design practice, and act as a key partner in defining product strategy and driving timely execution. This is a high-impact role for a systems thinker, product design visionary, and trusted partner who’s excited to help Censys scale its platform and reimagine how users understand everything on the internet.
What you will do:
- Lead the Design Function: Manage and grow a high-performing team of product designers, providing coaching, feedback, and mentorship to help them thrive.
- Shape Design Strategy: Establish the design vision and strategy across ASM and Platform experiences; influence product strategy and roadmap decisions at the leadership level.
- Bridge AI and Security UX: Partner with Product and Engineering to define how AI integrates into workflows across threat hunting, asset management, and risk remediation.
- Unify the User Experience: Champion consistency and cohesion across product surfaces; drive user journey overlap between ASM and Platform into a unified, seamless experience.
- Elevate Design Practice: Drive scalable design operations, research integration, and cross-functional rituals that support excellence in craft, collaboration, and iteration.
- Influence Executive Stakeholders: Present design work to executives and align stakeholders around product direction and user value.
- Drive Research-Led Innovation: Translate user research, Design Partner feedback, and usage data into opportunities to solve key customer problems.
- Recruit and Hire: Attract world-class talent to help scale the team in both IC and leadership roles.
- 8+ years of experience in product design, with 3+ years leading and scaling product design teams for Enterprise SAAS products.
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates excellent systems thinking, interaction design, and leadership of complex, enterprise-level products.
- Proven experience designing data-dense, research-heavy B2B tools—ideally in cybersecurity, networking, or infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in design execution across product strategy, UX/UI, and research integration.
- Experience building and evolving design systems at scale.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and a history of strategic influence in product and company direction.
This role might be a good fit if you:
- Have led design in a scaling, fast-paced B2B SaaS environment and thrive in ambiguity.
- Are energized by solving messy, systems-level design challenges and unifying fragmented user journeys.
- Bring both strategic vision and a strong sense of execution detail—you know when to zoom out and when to roll up your sleeves to drive a timely execution.
- Value deep collaboration and know how to build trust with Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market partners.
- Get excited about translating dense technical content (like internet assets, exposure risk, and threat signals) into intuitive, actionable product experiences.
- Care deeply about your team’s growth, clarity, and happiness—and you lead with empathy, transparency, and accountability.
- Rely heavily on top-down direction and struggle with self-directed, proactive leadership.
- Prefer working in consumer or marketing-oriented design environments over enterprise product work.
- Are uncomfortable with ambiguity or the pace of change in a startup environment.
- Are unwilling to lend an extra hand and jump in to drive timely execution.
- Struggle to trust your Senior Product Design Team. Efficient leadership is impossible without trust in your team’s capabilities.
The base salary range for this role is $145,200 to $238,260 plus bonus eligibility and is dependent on a combination of location, experience, and skills.
This position is remote with no expectation to come into a Censys office.
We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Censys is an equal opportunity employer.
