Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider.  Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time.  Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019. 


POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of InReach, Day Services Center, provides strategic direction and supervisory leadership to ensure the successful implementation of Roof Above’s InReach team that is embedded at the Day Services Center. A primary supervisory and management responsibility is supervising a team and program charged with helping individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness identify and secure a permanent housing solution. The position also holds responsibility for refining and ensuring implementation of Community Clinics (ID, Social Security, Disability, VA) as well as helping to develop and nurture program partners that provide services on the Day Services Center campus. The Director is responsible for ensuring timely and thorough data collection and reporting to illustrate program impact and accountability. The position includes development and clinical direction and ensuring that the program aligns with Roof Above’s core values, Housing First principles, harm reduction, and housing best practices. The Director provides a key leadership voice for the Day Services Center. The Director supervises a team of three employees.  The primary days are Monday-Friday, 40 hours weekly (7:45am-4:15pm) – or a similar eight-hour period that meets the needs of the organization and those we serve.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Initiate the strategic direction, prioritization, and implementation of the Day Services Center InReach program, that includes a focus on housing.
  • Directly supervise a team, including candidate prospecting, onboarding, training and shadowing, one-on-one case management supervision, team meetings, and general support.
  • Ensure team supervision and the completion of preliminary assessments, complete applications, and secure documentation around identification, social security, homeless verification, and income/benefit verification.
  • Analyze appropriate data benchmarks to ensure staff accountability and training/support needs.
  • Ensure weekly data input, tracking and reporting to analyze and monitor the program’s success.  
  • Strategically identify, cultivate, measure, nurture, and grow Day Services Center program partnerships that the Director, along with Day Services Center leadership determine to fit the needs of the Center.
  • Initiate, develop, and implement Day Center Clinics, including ID, Social Security Card, VA, and Disability.
  • Manage a small caseload, as needed, which could include client transportation, completing preliminary assessments, applications, and securing documentation around identification, social security, homeless verification, and income/benefit verification.
  • Cultivate and nurture any volunteers involved in the InReach program.
  • Actively participate in relevant community meetings, case conferencing, and workgroups.
  • Embrace and model the tenets of non-violent de-escalation, Housing First, and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Be a leadership presence at the Day Services Center, including, but not limited to managing service sign-ups, de-escalating disruptive behavior, greeting and welcoming individuals at the Day Services Center, and other needs related to the functions of the Day Services Center.
  • Manage the program’s budget for fiduciary responsibility through development, monitoring, and tracking expenses.
  • Serve on Roof Above’s Extended Leadership team to guide and lead the overall organization.
  • Serve on Roof Above’s Unsheltered Department’s Leadership Team.
  • Presenting and speaking about the program at relevant internal and external gatherings/meetings.
  • Be part of a team to perform other duties as assigned and as other teams may need assistance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A bachelor’s degree is required and a minimum of three years of relatable work experience.
  • Prior experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Posses a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency using technology, utilizing databases and analyzing data.
  • Proficiency (after training) using a Homeless Management Information Systems Database.
  • Excellent at being attentive to details, organizing, and direct supervision.
  • Ability to initiate projects, offer ideas, ask questions, and initiate/follow-through with minimal direction.
  • Ability to prioritize when facing multiple responsibilities and tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leading a team with respect and a sense of urgency and timeliness.
  • Being diligent, thorough, inquisitive, and solution oriented.
  • Embrace relationship building.
     

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Individual must be able to work with limited supervision, embrace a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable de-escalating negative behaviors with diverse individuals including persons with mental illness and substance use issues. Must be comfortable working with individuals who have criminal histories, including sex offenders. Must be good at navigating multiple competing priorities.
