The Opportunity

As a dedicated Director, Finance, you are responsible for leading complex business challenges through financial forecasting, planning, and modeling. Strategize key financial areas including USAA’s technology organization that represents 25% of USAA’s expenses or 3.5 billion dollars. Advises team members on advanced financial analysis and complex financial processes, applying sound financial principles and best practices. Ensures all work is completed in compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and internal controls. 

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Charlotte, NC.  

Relocation assistance is available for this position. 

What you'll do:

  • Develops finance team strategy to achieve business goals and objectives.

  • Promotes the development of effective team relationships and functions in various capacities as required to ensure the success of team efforts.

  • Frequently interacts with senior management and peers on finance and accounting matters requiring internal or cross-company coordination.

  • Serves as a consultant to senior leadership in long-range planning and influences business decision making.

  • Consistently interacts with senior leadership as a trusted advisor on financial issues.

  • Makes recommendations to solve short-term decisions, as well as strategic financial business problems.

  • Assists in developing the financial strategy for supported operating companies.

  • Identifies problems and critical issues impacting financial operations and implements appropriate responses to meet business challenges. Maintains familiarity with financial oversight and controls in a highly regulated environment.

  • Leads the development, coordination, and facilitation of identifying and communicating business technology requirements.

  • Assumes leadership responsibility on select projects.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional areas through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field is required; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 6 years of financial analysis experience and 3 years direct team lead or management experience required to include demonstrated ability to develop talent, manage workflow and project execution, foster open communication, and manage and improve processes.

  • Experience successfully communicating and influencing business decisions.

  • Ability to effectively work with internal and external partners.

What sets you apart:

  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner

  • Veteran or military-affiliated professional with experience in Cyber Command, DISA, Pentagon operations, acquisition programs, or technology modernization initiatives. 

  • Veteran, DoD, or defense contractor professional with experience in cyber, procurement, logistics, acquisition, technology integration, or AI-related programs, combined with strong financial analytics, business partnering, and executive communication skills. 

  • Experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders or directors. 

  • Demonstrated ability to support large technology organizations and complex investment portfolios is highly preferred. 

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
