Job Description:

AssetMark is a leading wealth management platform dedicated to empowering independent financial advisors. AssetMark's mission is to enable financial advisors to make a profound difference in the lives of their clients. Over 10,000 advisors partner with AssetMark for our investment offerings, innovative technology, advanced services, and expertise, which they use to delight their clients and grow their businesses.

 The Job/What You'll Do:

We're looking for a Director of Engineering to lead two mission-critical frontend teams building the applications that power our financial advisor clients' daily work. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical strategy, product partnership, and team growth. You'll own the technical direction for industry-leading applications, drive architectural decisions that shape our entire UI engineering organization, and mentor engineers while ensuring our technology foundation scales with business growth. We need leaders who love the challenges that come with building transformational platforms while growing high-performing teams.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.

What You'll Do:

Lead and Build

  • Lead and mentor a team of frontend engineers, building a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and collaborative problem-solving
  • Define and execute the technical vision for our UI architecture, championing declarative, configuration-driven approaches that separate presentation logic from backend code
  • Own full-cycle development from architecture through production, writing clean, maintainable code and reviewing work that meets critical coding, design, and security standards
  • Hire, grow, and retain world-class engineers who are curious, take ownership, and continuously improve

Design and Drive Architecture

  • Design and implement critical UI components, features, and foundational systems that scale
  • Shape overall application architecture through both written specifications and hands-on code implementation
  • Build and maintain enhanced UI frameworks that make software development easier for application teams across AssetMark
  • Drive AssetMark towards target state UI architecture through strategic technical decisions
  • Author technical design documents for complex platform capabilities and ensure they're implemented right
  • Shape our emerging agentic, AI-enabled software development processes helping to build agents to help with front end software development, and drive adoption across the entire engineering organization

Solve Hard Problems

  • Create industry leading applications to make our financial advisor clients look like rock stars and as we help them grow their business and help them run their businesses with more precision
  • Implement large-scale refactoring initiatives to improve platform code quality and performance
  • Design and implement standardized patterns for UI/UX, Backend for Frontend (BFF) service integration, and cross-application workflows
  • Establish and enforce design principles, versioning strategies, and governance models that keep us moving fast and smart

Partner and Collaborate

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and Quality Engineering to align platform capabilities with user experience goals
  • Apply deep analytical thinking to resolve technical challenges and propose innovative solutions
  • Provide guidance to engineers on tools and techniques needed for problem-solving
  • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for code and technical processes, leveraging GenAI tools and techniques
  • Actively participate in code reviews, team meetings, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement
What You Bring:

Leadership and Impact

  • Track record of leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers
  • Demonstrated history scaling engineering teams and processes in fast-growing technology companies
  • You think like a product owner, not just a delivery lead—you ask why before what, and what before how
  • You're a builder at heart: you move fast, cut scope thoughtfully, and take pride in seeing something go live
  • You care deeply about UX and performance—not just what your app does, but how it feels
  • You've led engineers through ambiguity and helped them grow without hand-holding

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with significant platform engineering focus
  • Experience with regulated industries, preferably financial services
 Why Join AssetMark?
  • Lead development of foundational platform capabilities that power the entire AssetMark ecosystem

  • Drive architectural decisions that shape the future of wealth management technology infrastructure

  • Work on transformational initiatives in a growth-oriented, private equity-backed environment

  • Mentor engineering talent and establish technical standards across the organization

  • Significant impact on technology strategy and platform evolution in the fintech space
