Why This Role is Important

We are seeking an experienced and creative Director of Content and PR to lead Budderfly's content strategy, brand messaging, and public relations efforts. This individual will drive thought leadership initiatives, manage a growing content team, and serve as a key liaison with our external PR agency. 

The ideal candidate will be a strategic storyteller and editor with a strong background in content marketing and a passion for sustainability. Reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and works closely with the Brands and Events teams.

Key Responsibilities:

 Content Marketing Leadership:

  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality, sustainability-focused content, including blog posts, case studies, newsletters, and multimedia campaigns
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align content initiatives with business objectives and customer needs
  • Manage 2 senior content marketers, one who leads customer communications and the other on brand positioning, ensuring timely delivery of relevant and engaging material
  • Review and approve  all written materials to ensure a consistent brand voice and high-quality content across channels

Public Relations Oversight:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the external PR team, guiding strategy to enhance brand visibility and credibility in the sustainability market
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (such as customers, executive  leadership, etc.) to help craft bylines, thought leadership, panels, and more
  • Report to the CMO and liaise with the Director of Brand and Director of Events on all marketing activities
  • Assist PR in the development of press releases, media pitches, and build proactive thought leadership opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers in the sustainability space
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of PR strategies through customerfeedback, engagement metrics, and other KPIs
  • Provide strategic input and feedback to the PR team on award submissions and panel proposals to ensure alignment with brand messaging and maximize visibility
  • Collaborate on event planning phases to integrate PR deliverables such as spokesperson briefings, media interviews, and content distribution.

Brand Voice and Messaging:

  • Refine and maintain a consistent brand voice that reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and customer-centric values.
  • Develop messaging frameworks for internal and external use, ensuring alignment across all communication channels.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders, including customers, partners, and community organizations, to amplify the company’s sustainability narrative

Qualifications:

  •  8+ years of experience in content marketing, corporate communications or public relations - perferably within sustainability, clean technology or  the energy sectors
  • Proven track record of managing content and PR teams or agencies
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills
  • Strategic thinking and project management capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with executive leadership
  • Passion for sustainability and making a positive environmental impact

Location : NY, CT or NJ

Compensation: $140,000 - $150,000 

Compensation is based on factors including level of experience, skillset, qualifications, and location.
