Job Description:

The DI Software Engineering Leader leads the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of software engineering development, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, secure, and compliant systems. This role is pivotal in driving measurable outcomes such as improved project and product delivery timelines, increased team productivity, reduced defect rates, and realizing business objectives. The position is ideally suited to an energetic and intellectually curious individual who will be part of a collaborative, purposeful, and passionate team in the manufacturing industry operating with agility and leveraging modern architecture, tools & processes.

Responsibilities include actively managing team performance by setting clear, quantifiable objectives, providing structured feedback, and fostering professional growth through targeted coaching and mentorship while maintaining a culture of psychology safety, accountability, and people-first mentality. This role has direct managerial responsibility and oversees resource planning, talent acquisition, and people management for a single software engineer team.

Effective stakeholder engagement through structured relationship management is critical to the success of this role. The Engineer Leader is responsible for integrating comprehensive people, process, and technology solutions to drive innovation, strengthen organizational capabilities, and deliver sustained, measurable benefits aligned with the strategic goals of internal stakeholders and product owners.

The leader facilitates the ongoing organizational adoption of valuable practices and culture such as product-led strategy, value-mapping, iterative investment, and genuine agile methods. Cultural objectives and alignment emphasize a blameless approach, psychological safety, autonomy, grace, ownership, and fostering a team mindset for both successes and setbacks, all aimed at supporting a harmonious balance of people and performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Software Development & System Management

  • Sets policy and drives adherence to standards, best practices & modern tech/tooling for cloud & edge/OT software systems development, including change management. Continuously monitors and reduces technical debt.
  • Leads activities that make security and privacy integral to development processes.
  • Identifies and manages the resources necessary for all stages of software development projects.
  • Ensures technical, financial, quality, performance, scalability, and documentation targets are met.

Performance Management

  • Forms, maintains and leads workgroups and individuals to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Sets quality, performance, and capability targets aligned with organizational goals.
  • Monitors performance and working relationships, provides feedback to address individual issues.
  • Nurtures skill development in line with team and personal goals.
  • Adjusts workload, targets and team capacity to support individual growth.
  • Actively participates in formal processes such as forecasting, budgeting, recruitment, reward, promotion and disciplinary procedures.

Resourcing

  • Plans and manages the acquisition and deployment of resources to meet specific needs and ongoing demand.
  • Defines and manages the implementation of resourcing processes and tools.
  • Advises on available resourcing options and tailors approaches to meet requirements.
  • Engages with external parties in support of resourcing plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness & efficiency of onshore & offshore resourcing processes and drives continuous improvements.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Translates communications and stakeholder engagement strategies into clearly defined activities and deliverables.
  • Acts as the accountable point of contact for developing and maintaining stakeholder engagement including adoption strategies and plans.
  • Ensures productive relationships between stakeholders and high-ownership engineers.
  • Captures and disseminates technical and business information.
  • Identifies and manages the communications and collaborative relationship needs of stakeholder groups.

Organizational Capability Development

  • Seeks out, identifies, proposes, and initiates capability improvement activities within the organization.
  • Plans and manages the evaluation or assessment of organizational capabilities.
  • Takes action to exploit opportunities to deliver measurable impacts upon operational effectiveness.
  • Develops solutions and leads change initiatives, encompassing communication and implementation activities.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, STEM or equivalent experience.
  • 8–10+ years of working experience in the software engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with Industrial IoT, distributed and/or event-driven systems.
  • 5+ years’ experience with major cloud hyper scalers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • 2–3+ years of experience supervising and directing, leading, or managing direct reports
  • 1+ year of experience managing a distributed/remote and international team.
  • Experience with sustainable agentic development practices and associated change management.
  • Experience with modern containerization of applications and automated cloud deployment tooling & templates.
  • Experience integrating open-source technologies in a commercial environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering production-quality software in iterative environments.
  • Experience with value-driven development, discovery-oriented practices, and hypothesis-based execution.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers, including coaching for growth, performance, and autonomy.
  • Experience supporting or building high-throughput teams leveraging modern practices such as agentic development, CI/CD, trunk-based development, and automated testing.
  • Experience collaborating in product-led environments with product, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience creating or maintaining a culture of psychological safety, team accountability, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with data management (SQL, NoSQL, Big Data), analytics, business intelligence and/or data science related technologies.
  • Familiarity with Portfolio and Project Management tools.

Supervisory/Responsibility:

Supervisory responsibility for multiple software development engineers, including direct reports.

Work Environment:

This is an office position at a major USA BW location or remotely based. The employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the employer when visiting a manufacturing facility.

Position Type:
This is a regular, full-time position with the understanding that a regular workweek will require extended days and hours as needed to meet business needs.

Compensation:

$150k to $185k and an additional yearly incentive plan greater than 10% of salary.

Travel:

Moderate domestic (vendors, user, and customer site visits) and occasional international travel required as part of this role.

Physical Demands:

The employee sits at a desk and uses a computer for prolonged periods of time.  Performing the role frequently uses close vision, speech, hearing, and dexterity to operate office equipment.  The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
