Job Summary
The Design Trainee participates in various design projects from concept to completion. Producing drafts, prototypes, and engaging design solutions.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Gaining knowledge and experience in designing with a given brief and budget
Gaining knowledge and experience in producing design boards to a high standard for presentation to clients
Gaining knowledge and experience in assisting installers on show home installations, ensuring that they are dressed to a high standard
Gaining knowledge and experience in shopping for products efficiently, ensuring that budgets are adhered to
Gaining knowledge and experience in monitoring costs and shopping expenditure
Using Photoshop effectively to provide the highest standard of presentation material
Researching and keeping up to date with current design trends
Ensuring that customer satisfaction is achieved and that any issues are dealt with promptly
Gaining full knowledge of all manufacturers available by attending all design shows
Qualifications
Drafting, CAD, construction, or framing background
Complete the Technical Training Program and successfully pass an assessment test
Demonstrate the ability to read and understand blueprints
Demonstrate mathematical skills required to calculate concentrated and uniform loads
Working knowledge of floor and roof systems and the ability to spec out beams and hangers
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrate the ability to work independently manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meeting deadlines
Ability to sit at a desk for long amounts of time
Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking
Good people skills with strong customer service attitude and proper phone etiquette

Hourly Pay Range: $18/hour dependent on experience*
*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living
Bonus/Incentive Pay:
Incentive pay may be available for certain job roles and may include piece rate incentives, weekly production bonuses, trip rates, and employee referral bonuses. A discretionary annual bonus based on Company and business unit performance may also be provided.
