Role

As a Data Science Manager at SmarterDx, you will lead a team of data scientists and play a critical role in scaling our Clinical AI Platform through strategic vision and operational excellence. You will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive data science strategy that identifies and prioritizes core modeling components across multiple product lines, while fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence. Your leadership will drive the translation of business objectives into impactful machine learning solutions, ensuring our models deliver measurable value to healthcare organizations. This is a high-leverage role ideal for a technical leader who excels at building teams, removing obstacles, and driving cross-functional alignment in a fast-paced environment.

**This role is fully remote within the US**

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data science strategy that identifies and prioritizes core modeling components across multiple product lines
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5-8 data scientists, providing technical guidance and career development support
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate business objectives into data science roadmaps and priorities
  • Proactively identify and remove blockers that impede team productivity and project success
  • Recruit top-tier data science talent and foster a collaborative culture of experimentation and learning
  • Guide architectural decisions for shared modeling infrastructure and tooling that supports the entire platform
  • Establish data science best practices, standards, and methodologies that accelerate experimentation and deployment
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless integration of ML models into product workflows
  • Implement metrics and KPIs to measure team performance and model impact on business outcomes
What You Bring
  • 2+ years managing data scientists or a similar role
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, or related fields with strong technical foundations
  • Experience in healthcare, medical data, or revenue cycle management with understanding of clinical workflows
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or scikit-learn
  • Proven track record of scaling teams and establishing processes in high-growth environments
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and MLOps best practices for production deployment
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to influence and drive alignment across cross-functional teams
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives that span multiple product areas with measurable business impact
  • Deep understanding of machine learning lifecycle from experimentation to production deployment
  • Track record of building strong relationships with Product and Engineering leadership on strategic planning
Nice To Haves
  • Knowledge of explainable AI techniques and model interpretability best practices
  • Experience developing products leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Background in revenue cycle management or hospital operations
  • Previous experience working in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Publications or contributions to the broader data science or healthcare AI community
  • Experience managing remote or distributed data science teams
