Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship program acts as a voice for our investors to promote strong corporate governance focused on long-term investment returns at the companies in which our funds invest. Our Investment Stewardship program is closely aligned with Vanguard’s core purpose “to take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.” Investment Stewardship supports this mission by engaging with executive leadership teams and boards of directors of the companies in which the Vanguard-advised funds invest, as well as voting at shareholder meetings to make sure that investors’ interests are always a priority.
In this role, you will serve as the lead data analyst supporting the data and analytics needs of Investment Stewardship and help drive our data-informed culture. You will partner with Investment Stewardship leadership and crew, Digital Product Manager, OGC IT, and enterprise partners to help set a vision and manage our roadmap to scale and support data self-service and providing data-driven solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Investment Stewardship and enterprise business partners to define and implement effective metrics and performance measurements for key internal initiatives.
- Develop and maintain complex queries and datasets to support self-service reporting and analytics platforms.
- Work closely with IT development teams to identify, source, and store necessary data assets in support of the Investment Stewardship teams.
- Conduct data validation and testing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Design and implement scalable self-service analytics solutions using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to enhance data literacy across the department.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency and deliver business value through data-driven insights.
- Mentor and train Investment Stewardship team members and partners to foster a data-informed culture.
- Develop ETL processes, design database systems, and build tools for both real-time and batch analytical processing.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and implement corresponding solutions.
- Contribute to all phases of the analytics solution lifecycle, from design to deployment.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand strategic goals and translate them into actionable data initiatives.
- Gather, clean, and integrate structured and unstructured data for analysis.
- Analyze historical data to uncover trends and generate insights using advanced analytical techniques.
- Create compelling visualizations and presentations to communicate findings and support decision-making.
- Own and manage recurring analytics and reporting processes.
- Provide guidance and development support to junior data analysts.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in Vanguard’s data ecosystem and metadata management.
- Strong foundation in relational database design and architecture.
- Proven experience leveraging AWS services to access, process, and manage large-scale datasets.
- Advanced proficiency in query and programming tools such as Amazon Athena and Python (Anaconda); experience with SageMaker is a plus.
- Mastery of data visualization platforms including Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to thorough documentation and data integrity.
- Experience with GitHub and code version control
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and solve complex problems.
- Familiarity with regulatory/compliance data and fund-side systems (e.g., GIFS, GIDM) is a strong advantage.
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a drive to make an immediate impact.
- Enthusiastic about challenges and contributing to a collaborative, fun work environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
