CPI Security is looking to hire a Cybersecurity Engineer to join our IT Operations and Security team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. At CPI Security, we help families and businesses protect what matters most through customized security, smart home technology, and award-winning service. Founded in Charlotte in 1991, CPI has grown into the 8th largest security provider in the U.S., according to the 2026 SDM 100 rankings, while staying true to our local roots and community-focused culture. As one of the few providers that designs, installs, monitors, and services its own systems, CPI offers employees the opportunity to work with innovative technology, serve customers with care, and make a real impact in the communities we call home.

The Cybersecurity Engineer will help own security operations across detection, investigation, incident response, remediation, and continuous improvement. This is not a monitoring-only role. The ideal candidate is a hands-on security professional who can independently triage and resolve security events, tune detection tools, reduce alert noise, and partner with IT teams to strengthen CPI’s security posture. This role works across endpoint, identity, email, network, cloud, and hybrid environments to improve threat detection, incident response processes, and overall operational security. This role is 100% on-site, in-office, at our South Charlotte company headquarters.

What You'll Do:
  • Support security alert triage, investigations, containment, remediation, and documentation.
  • Assist with incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Tune security alerts, improve detection accuracy, and reduce false positives.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and security control improvements.
  • Administer and secure on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Investigate identity, endpoint, server, network, email, and cloud security issues.
  • Partner with infrastructure teams to address security risks and technical weaknesses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or automate security processes.
  • Document findings and communicate risks to technical teams and leadership.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Required career progression from Help Desk or technical support to Systems Administrator or Systems Engineer.
  • At least three years of experience in systems administration or systems engineering, including one to two years of cybersecurity experience.
  • Experience with on-premises Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Windows systems, Microsoft 365, and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of incident response, vulnerability management, identity security, system hardening, and security monitoring.
  • Understanding of network security, including firewalls, VPNs, DNS, and segmentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • PowerShell, Python, or similar automation experience.
  • Azure or AWS security experience.
  • Exposure to security automation, SOAR workflows, or detection engineering.
  • Interest in AI-driven security capabilities and emerging security operations technologies.
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay and the opportunity to work for an iconic brand.
  • Great medical, dental, vision, short
  • and long-term disability, and life insurance options.
  • Company-paid holidays, floating holiday, and paid time off.
  • 401(k) plan with competitive company match.
  • Eligible for free monitored security system after 90 days.
  • Education assistance — we encourage and support employees who want to improve their skills and further their education.
  • Engaging and fun company culture made up of a diverse group of people.
  • Volunteer and community engagement opportunities. CPI partners with organizations that share our mission to save and improve lives, particularly focusing on underserved communities.
  • On-site café, coffee/smoothie bar, walking trail, basketball court, and state-of-the-art fitness facility with dedicated fitness staff.
  • Birthday and work anniversary rewards.

At CPI Security, we protect what matters most — for our customers, our communities, and our teams.
