NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics Engineer based in Concord, NC.
The Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics Engineer oversees NASCAR’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD) initiatives, running simulations from CAD model creation through post-processing. The role also involves producing detailed analytical reports and supporting wind tunnel testing for research and development efforts and new vehicle submissions.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead the CFD program in collaboration with TotalSim USA, managing aero team concepts and requests from CAD through post-processing.
- Maintain CFD models for all three NASCAR national series, supporting performance evaluation, liftoff analysis, and thermal studies.
- Assist with R&D wind tunnel testing, including vehicle preparation, prototype part fabrication, and data analysis.
- Support the new vehicle submission process.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Travel approximately 10%, including some weekends.
Required skills / experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s degree preferred) and 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with CATIA, Beta CAE ANSA, OpenFoam, Siemens STAR-CCM+, ParaView, or similar tools is highly desirable.
- Background in automotive aerodynamics—especially high-performance or racing vehicles—is preferred.
- Strong interest in race car aerodynamics, CFD, and the role aerodynamics plays from single-vehicle performance to full-field behavior.
- Solid fundamentals in aerodynamics and CFD, including lift and drag, ground effects, and numerical simulation methods.
- Strong ability to interpret wind tunnel and on-car data.
