Are you a believer in the power of strategic communications to engage employees, attract customers, connect community, and drive business results? Does the opportunity to build a communications infrastructure within a multi-site manufacturing operation whose extraordinary capabilities are crucial to fast-growing markets excite you?  ATI is seeking a Communications Manager to tell its story of aerospace and defense leadership. Top priority: strong internal communications experience. As our business grows, there will be opportunities to expand into social media, media relations, community engagement and executive communications.


This corporate-wide position is embedded within ATI’s Specialty Materials business unit in Monroe, NC, the largest private employer in Union County. The Communications Manager will be a member of the business unit leadership team, partnering to guide strategic internal and external communications, as well as supporting enterprise-wide initiatives. We are a manufacturing organization, operating 24/7 - this is an onsite position Monday through Friday.   


A successful Communications Manager will have experience reaching audiences through strategic communications that deliver results through sharp writing, engaging meetings and events, creative video, and focused leadership coaching. Help us to empower and equip our team members by building and maintaining effective communications channels including face-to-face, media, digital and social, and print. Job Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement communication strategies to support the mission and goals of ATI overall and specifically the Specialty Materials business unit. Focus on employee engagement and supporting supervisor-employee communications.
  • Build robust communications channels to reach operators on the shop floor, connecting them to the vision and priorities, helping them to align their performance to deliver results.
  • Create and distribute content to proactively tell our story across all channels, written and video, to reach key audiences including employees, recruits, customers, community and media.
  • Help to protect ATI’s reputation through proactive crisis management plans and community relations strategies.
  • Collaborate with company leadership and cross-functional teams to implement effective communications in support of growth projects and vital initiatives.
  • Support ATI’s digital and social media presence, building impactful followership and engaging employees as ATI ambassadors.
  • Engage with media - proactively and reactively - to extend the reach of our story. 
  • In addition to corporate-wide responsibilities, serve as an embedded leader of the Specialty Materials business unit, driving business unit strategy through communications.
  • Regularly assess and implement the appropriate measures that test the effectiveness of ATI’s communication channels, initiatives, and tools.
Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or relevant field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in professional communications
  • Prior experience in Communications working with a "deskless" workforce, preferably in manufacturing, construction, healthcare or other relevant field
  • Experience engaging with trade, local and top-tier media preferred
  • Experience guiding graphic design and video production. Expertise in Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Expertise in change management and leadership communications
  • Experience as a reporter or journalist with strong storytelling skills is highly preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience implementing social media strategies
  • Video production expertise, including shooting, directing and editing
  • Strategic thinking and strong communications planning
  • Project management skills
  • Proven ability to take initiative, lead through ambiguity, and deliver effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to travel up to 25%
