About the FaaS Platform Team

The FaaS (Functions as a Service) Platform team builds and operates Vanguard’s enterprise serverless computing platform, enabling teams to deploy event-driven applications with managed infrastructure, security, and integrations.

Built on AWS Lambda, the platform provides standardized, self-service capabilities that abstract cloud complexity and accelerate delivery across the enterprise. The team focuses on scalability, reliability, security, and improving developer experience through reusable infrastructure and tooling.

Role Overview

As a TS01 Cloud Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and support of the FaaS platform. You will work on moderately to highly complex team assignments, partnering with engineers to deliver platform capabilities and improve operational excellence.

You are a strong individual contributor focused on building technical proficiency, collaborating across teams, and aligning your work to platform and department goals.

This role is ideal for engineers who are growing their cloud and platform engineering skills and want to deepen their experience in serverless architectures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of event-driven, serverless solutions on AWS Lambda

  • Support platform reliability, scalability, and operational excellence through coding, testing, and monitoring

  • Build and enhance reusable infrastructure, tooling, and platform capabilities

  • Troubleshoot issues and resolve problems using established practices and team guidance

  • Collaborate with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders across the department

  • Participate in on-call rotation and support production systems

  • Contribute to documentation and continuously improve developer experience

  • Actively engage in team discussions, share ideas, and provide feedback

Required Skills and ExperienceTechnical Foundation
  • Foundational knowledge of AWS, with exposure to Lambda or cloud-based development

  • Experience in software development, Python required; Node or Java nice to have

  • Basic understanding of APIs, HTTP patterns, and event-driven concepts

  • Familiarity with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and testing practices

  • Exposure to infrastructure as code, such as CloudFormation

Platform Engineering Mindset
  • Interest in building internal platforms or shared services

  • Willingness to learn about developer experience, self-service tooling, and reusable patterns

  • Exposure to monitoring, logging, and production support practices

Collaboration and Growth
  • Strong team player who contributes to team goals and supports peers

  • Comfortable sharing ideas and asking questions in team settings

  • Demonstrates accountability for assigned work and commitments

  • Actively seeks feedback and applies it to improve
