Job Description

Position Summary

The Claims Strategy & Competitive Insights Manager is responsible for defining business strategy for Claims and building the insights capability that informs it. This role sits upstream of execution—owning the definition of “what we will do and why” and ensures strategies are clear, aligned, and positioned to drive measurable business outcomes.

As a strategic partner to Claims leadership, this role translates enterprise priorities, external dynamics, and internal capabilities into actionable strategic direction. In parallel, this individual will establish a competitive insights function that enables Claims to anticipate market shifts, benchmark performance, and identify opportunities for differentiation.

This role also serves as a key driver of executive communication developing clear, compelling narratives that shape leadership thinking and enable effective decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy Definition

  • Define and articulate Claims business strategies that strengthen performance, improve outcomes, and align with enterprise priorities.
  • Translate complex inputs into clear strategic direction, including objectives, key levers, and constraints.
  • Lead strategy development from initial concept through execution-ready articulation.
  • Ensure strategies are grounded in clear trade-offs, defined scope, and measurable outcomes.

Competitive Insights & Intelligence

  • Build and lead the Claims competitive insights capability, defining how insights are gathered, synthesized, and applied.
  • Establish a repeatable approach to monitoring market and competitor activity and identifying emerging trends.
  • Translate insights into clear business implications, risks, and strategic opportunities.
  • Develop insight products (e.g., executive briefs, trend analyses, competitive summaries) that inform leadership decisions.
  • Partner across functions and with external sources to evolve and scale the insights capability.

Strategic Framing & Problem Solving

  • Structure complex, ambiguous problems into clear decisions, trade-offs, and recommended paths forward.
  • Develop strategy artifacts (e.g., problem definitions, scope boundaries, success metrics) that enable execution teams to move with clarity.
  • Ensure strategies are well-formed and actionable prior to handoff to execution teams.

Executive Communication & Influence

  • Lead development of executive-level strategy narratives and presentations for senior leadership and officer audiences.
  • Translate complex strategies and insights into clear, compelling, and decision-oriented storylines.
  • Create high-impact PowerPoint materials that shape discussion and drive alignment not just report progress.
  • Deliver clear, concise verbal updates and facilitate leadership conversations that enable decisions.
  • Influence on how strategy and insights are framed and communicated across the organization.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner across Claims, Technology, Analytics, Finance, and other teams to pressure-test strategies and ensure feasibility.
  • Drive alignment on strategic direction prior to execution, without owning delivery or governance.

Role Scope & Operating Model

  • This role is accountable for strategy definition and insights capability development.
  • Execution planning, dependency management, and delivery governance are owned by the portfolio management function.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, or business strategy roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business strategies from concept through clear articulation.
  • Experience in competitive intelligence, market insights, or strategic analysis, with a focus on translating insights into business implications.
  • Exceptional written, visual, and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and executive storytelling.
  • Strong structured thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts into clear direction.
  • Experience working cross-functionally in complex organizations.
  • 4-year Bachelors Degree.

Travel

  • Ability to travel up to 20% for quarterly team meetings and connections.

Supervisory Responsibilities
