How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM)

Location: 100% remote. You must live in one of these 14 states: AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA. Applications from other states cannot be considered.

Compensation: $110,000 base salary + performance compensation | $182,000+ total earnings potential

Employment: Full-time W-2 employee (not a fractional, contract, or side role)

You've run a business, and you've helped other owners run theirs. Now do it every day, with clients we bring you.

Most attorneys who own a law firm were trained to practice law, not to run a business. They're great lawyers dealing with cash flow, pricing, hiring, and growth, often without anyone in their corner who has been there.

As a CEO Advisor at HTM, you'll work one-on-one with small and midsized law firm owners. You'll help them build a business plan, understand their numbers, make the hard calls, and follow through. You don't need a legal background. You need to have owned a business's results yourself and have a track record of helping other owners get results.

We bring you the clients. You bring the experience.

What you'll do
  • Meet regularly with law firm owners to set growth targets, establish priorities, and build an actionable business plan.
  • Review revenue, expenses, margins, and cash flow to identify opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Help owners solve operational problems involving staffing, workflow, intake, pricing, and systems.
  • Challenge assumptions, coach owners through difficult decisions, and hold them accountable for following through.
  • Help owners build firms that operate more effectively without depending on them for every decision and that increase in value over time.
Who we're looking for
  • You've advised small business owners. You have a track record of working one-on-one with owners of small and midsized businesses on strategy, financial performance, and growth as an advisor, coach, consultant, fractional executive, or peer-group leader.
  • You've owned the P&L. You've been an owner, CEO, or President with company-wide P&L responsibility, accountable for the financial performance and overall success of the business—not just one department, business unit, or location.
  • You've operated at the right scale. You've run a business with annual revenue between approximately $500K and $30M, and you can explain the decisions that drove its results.
  • You can point to results. You can describe specific owners you've helped and business decisions you've made, along with what changed in revenue, profit, or cash flow.
  • You understand how the money works. You know how pricing, margins, cash flow, people, and operations connect to profitability and business growth.
  • You're direct and you follow through. You're comfortable telling an owner what they need to hear, helping them make difficult decisions, and holding them accountable until the plan is carried out.
  • Bonus: Experience with professional-services firms (legal, accounting, medical, engineering, or consulting), either running one or advising their owners.
This role is probably not a fit if:
  • You haven't held company-wide P&L responsibility as an owner, CEO, or President.
  • Your experience is primarily in large corporations or in a single functional area, such as sales, procurement, marketing, operations administration, or engineering.
  • You haven't worked one-on-one with small business owners as an advisor or coach.
  • You live outside the 14 eligible states listed above.
  • You want to continue running your own practice or another business alongside this role.
Compensation and benefits
  • $110,000 base salary.
  • $182,000+ total earnings potential through performance-based compensation.
  • Uncapped performance opportunity, subject to the terms of the compensation plan.
  • HTM's Elite Benefits Bundle.
  • Full-time W-2 employment, with clients provided by HTM.
