Compensation & Benefits

  • Manager: $95,000 – $187,000 base - Depending on hires geographical location

  • Senior Manager: $130,000 – $262,000+ base - Depending on hires geographical location

  • Performance-based bonuses

Overview

A well-established, relationship-driven public accounting firm within the Crete Professionals Alliance family is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join its growing Captive Insurance Tax practice.

This is a unique opportunity for a tax professional to step into a highly specialized, in-demand niche that blends complex compliance with meaningful advisory work. The role offers direct exposure to closely held businesses and high-net-worth clients, with the ability to play a key role in shaping and expanding a developing practice area.

 

Position Summary

The Tax Manager / Senior Manager will lead the delivery of tax compliance and advisory services for captive insurance structures and related entities. This individual will serve as a technical resource and client advisor, supporting both day-to-day compliance and higher-level planning, structuring, and controversy matters.

This role is best suited for someone who can operate in a specialist capacity, while also contributing to client relationships and practice growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and review tax compliance for captive insurance companies and related entities

  • Provide technical guidance on IRC §831(b) and insurance-specific tax considerations

  • Advise clients on captive structuring, including risk distribution and risk shifting principles

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships

  • Support and lead IRS examinations, audits, and controversy matters related to captives

  • Lead multiple engagements, including planning, execution, and delivery

  • Review work of staff and seniors; provide mentorship and technical development

  • Identify tax planning opportunities and contribute to advisory-focused engagements

  • Collaborate with firm leadership to support practice growth and service line expansion

 

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with closely held businesses and complex tax structures

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

  • CPA license required

  • Manager: 5–7+ years of public accounting tax experience

  • Senior Manager: 8–12+ years of public accounting tax experience

  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and multiple engagements

Captive Insurance Experience is required

Candidates should bring direct experience with captive insurance taxation or closely related experience, including:

  • Tax compliance or planning for captive insurance companies (preferred)

  • Experience with §831(b) captives or micro-captive structures

  • Background in insurance tax, including P&C, reinsurance, or alternative risk arrangements

  • Understanding of risk distribution and risk shifting concepts

  • Experience supporting IRS audits or controversy involving captives or insurance entities
