The Company

Arta is on an audacious and incredibly rewarding mission: to pave the way for people everywhere to lead more successful financial lives. Arta leverages AI and sophisticated digital tools—once reserved for ultra-high-net-worth individuals—and makes them accessible to a broader global audience. Think of it as your own digital family office, combining intelligent investment strategies, alternative assets, private market access, and smart automation to help you grow and protect your wealth effortlessly. We value trust, teamwork, and adaptability. Think: intelligent investing, personalized portfolios, and real-time trading, all backed by robust data infrastructure.

The Role

We’re building the backend systems that power Arta’s trading platform, billing infrastructure, and real-time financial data pipelines. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, ML researchers, and investment professionals — but your core focus will be designing and scaling the services, pipelines, and APIs behind these mission-critical systems.

This is a role for a backend engineer who thrives in high-stakes, data-intensive environments and enjoys solving complex distributed systems problems — from market data ingestion, to transaction workflows, to revenue and billing accuracy (where “close enough” is not a thing).

What You Will Do
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, high-performance backend services supporting our trading and analytics platform

  • Own and evolve our market data ingestion and processing pipelines, integrating data from exchanges, providers, and internal systems

  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services used by internal and external consumers

  • Contribute to architecture decisions involving microservices, event-driven systems, and real-time streaming

  • Ensure system reliability through strong practices in observability, fault tolerance, monitoring, and incident response
Work closely with frontend, data science, and product teams to deliver seamless user experiences backed by robust backend infrastructure

  • Stay current on market data standards, trading protocols, and relevant regulatory considerations (MiFID II, FINRA, etc.)

Who You Are
  • 4+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, ideally in fintech, trading, or other high-reliability domains

  • Strong programming skills in Python

  • Proven experience working with data-intensive systems, both batch and real-time

  • Hands-on experience building and scaling data pipelines and streaming systems (Kafka, Spark, Airflow, or equivalents)

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)

  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, time-series databases, or similar storage systems

  • Familiarity with market data feeds, order management systems, or electronic trading platforms is a plus

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment with high ownership and ambiguity

  • Bonus: Familiarity with quantitative finance, portfolio optimization, or risk modeling

  • Bonus: Exposure to ML-driven systems for trading or investment management

  • Bonus: Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or WebSockets for low-latency interfaces

  • LOCATION: You are either based in the Bay area, or have plans to relocate to the Bay area

This role reports to the Engineering Manager based in the Bay area.

  • Hiring Manager Interview, 30m

  • Culture Interview, 30m

Note: We require at least one in-person interview before making our offer decision. For remotely located candidates, we may request you to visit the Mountain View HQ to meet the team. Depending on your location, you will meet our team member based in NY/New Jersey.

Interview Integrity Notice
To ensure a fair and accurate assessment, candidates are expected to complete all interview exercises independently, without the use of external assistance or AI tools. Arta may, with your consent, request that you share your full screen during technical portions of the interview to verify your work environment. Interviewers may also, with your consent, ask you to temporarily disable virtual backgrounds or filters to confirm your identity and maintain interview integrity.
