Applications Engineer, Specialist

Job Summary
The Applications Engineer, Specialist leads advanced design, development, and optimization efforts for complex enterprise applications and healthcare integration ecosystems. This role drives automation, scalability, and technical innovation across the application environment while ensuring strict alignment with enterprise architecture standards, data security, and compliance regulations. Serving as a technical advisor for integration strategy, modern data exchange protocols, and application modernization initiatives, the Specialist designs, implements, and maintains robust data pipelines and interface solutions.
Essential Functions

• Architects, configures, and maintains large-scale applications with advanced integration requirements.
• Leads system upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning initiatives.
• Partners with architecture, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure technical alignment.
• Drives automation, scripting, and deployment improvements across environments.
• Establishes standards and documentation to guide enterprise application practices.
• Mentors engineers and serve as a resource for resolving complex technical challenges.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Software Engineering; or the equivalent required
• 8-10 years of experience in application engineering or related IT field required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Hands-on experience with Mirth engines (Mirth Connect) and  InterSystems HealthConnect (or Ensemble) for healthcare interface development and administration, Preferred.
• Deep technical expertise with HL7 protocols (v2/v3) as well as practical experience with FHIR standards and RESTful API integrations, Preferred.
• Strong programming background using JavaScript, Python, or similar languages, Preferred.
• Practical working knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and design patterns, Preferred.
• Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, database structure evaluation, and data manipulation, Preferred.
• Fundamental understanding and application of Data Science principles, including data analysis, transformation pipelines, and data quality modeling, Preferred.
• Proficiency in Linux environments, including system administration, command-line scripting, and server maintenance, Preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, OCI, or GCP) for application deployment, scalability, and infrastructure management, Preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of enterprise application design and integration architectures.
• Expertise in automation, scripting, and deployment pipelines.
• Strong analytical and leadership skills in technical decision-making.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven ability to deliver scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
