Job Overview

The VP II Distinguished Data Engineer will provide technical leadership to the data engineering team and collaborate with senior engineers within the team and across multiple disciplines within LPL Financial. This position is an individual contributor role and is highly technical. It requires extensive knowledge of complex technical principles, practices, and procedures related to all aspects of data engineering and the ability to perform hands-on engineering. The successful candidate will lead efforts to design, implement, maintain, test, deploy, monitor, and enhance applications, systems, subsystems, and processes. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing projects that enable scalable ingestion, processing, storage, and distribution of large volumes of data through streaming and API’s. The VP II Distinguished Data Engineer will also participate in the proof of concepts and prototypes as needed. This role will also actively mentor junior staff members and help grow the data engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of end-to-end data pipelines including ETL/ELT, data quality, data governance, metadata management, data modeling, and master data management.

• Partner with various teams such as enterprise architecture, product management, and application development to identify requirements for new data initiatives.

• Develop scalable solutions and ensure high standards and compliance throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and executive sponsors to ensure the success of data initiatives.

• Identify opportunities to leverage existing capabilities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, recommending appropriate tools and techniques to the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems

  • Minimum of 5 years leading application modernization initiatives

  • Experience with Agile development process

  • Snowflake experience.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts of different normalization methods, and hands-on working experience in OLTP/OLAP environments

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python .NET) and API management

  • Hands-on experience working with databases and SQL (e.g., Oracle DBMS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB,MySQL etc).

  • Deep understanding of modern software/data management practices, including Domain-Based Design, DevSecOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile methodologies, with an emphasis on Lean principles

  • Proficiency in architecting Event-Driven solutions encompassing event brokers, data streams, and serverless functions to sophisticated event processing and analytics using container and orchestration technologies, including but not limited to AWS Kinesis, Kafka, Glue, and AWS Lambda.

Core Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading and delivering complex data engineering projects.

Preferences:

  • Financial industry experience, particularly in wealth management, securities, and trading.

  • AWS cloud architecture experience. AWS Solution Architect certification is a plus.


 

Pay Range:

$156,225-$260,375/year
 
Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
