The VP Underwriting plays a key role in the production, marketing, and underwriting of reinsurance solutions across Casualty and Specialty lines. This individual is expected to lead by example, earning credibility both internally and externally, and may also serve as a mentor or manager to risk analysts. The portfolio includes a diverse range of lines such as Cyber, Excess Casualty, Casualty Clash, Non-Traditional Transactional Liability and Litigation Risk, D&O, Professional Liability. The role also encompasses cross-class multiline transactions, including whole account quota shares and other structured solutions, some of which may involve significant property and credit components in addition to casualty and specialty exposures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite a broad and diverse portfolio that complements the company’s global underwriting strategy
- Lead the execution of complex casualty, specialty, and multiline reinsurance transactions
- Work with the local team to enhance and implement best practices in casualty and cyber underwriting
- Work with the local team leader to align underwriting strategies with group stakeholders, including Portfolio Heads, Client Team Leaders, CUOs, Risk Team, and the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include setting risk tolerances, develop business plans, and preparing and delivering presentations for strategic meetings.
- Support the local team leader and Global Head of Ceded in structuring and executing outwards reinsurance purchases. This includes managing relationships with external partners and maintaining a deep understanding of the groups’ Casualty and Specialty portfolios.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; actuarial qualification preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry
- Strong relationship with senior clients and brokers in the casualty and/or cyber (re)insurance markets
- In-depth knowledge of casualty and/or cyber portfolio management and risk assessment practices
- Proven ability to design, build, and work with complex risk models and systems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Solid understanding of reinsurance structures and risk transfer mechanisms
- Willingness and ability to travel as required
