About the role

The VP of Risk Intelligence, Derivatives Risk Management (DRM), Policy Management & RCSA Program Execution is a senior, multi-disciplinary role responsible for building and maturing Tidal’s risk infrastructure across analytics, data, derivatives oversight, and enterprise risk governance. The role is highly visible and combines hands-on analytics, program leadership, cross-functional partnership, and strategic execution. A core objective of this role is not only to identify and analyze risks, but to drive the implementation of effective, timely, and sustainable risk-mitigation measures across the organization.

Reporting directly to the Head of Risk Management, this leader will advance Tidal’s risk culture, enhance risk transparency across the platform, and ensure our risk practices keep pace with Tidal’s continued growth and operational complexity.

What you'll do

Risk Intelligence, Risk Data Management & Enterprise Risk Analytics

  • Design and scale Tidal’s risk intelligence framework, focusing on data-driven risk insights, automated reporting, and intuitive analytics for business and leadership use.
  • Build, maintain, and evolve risk dashboards and reporting (e.g., operational risk, investment/portfolio risk, counterparty risks, trends, KRIs) using modern visualization tools.
  • Partner with Data, Technology, and Operations to strengthen risk data architecture, data quality, and automated data flows.
  • Conduct exploratory risk analytics to identify trends, concentration risks, control issues, or outliers across Tidal’s platform.
  • Produce executive-level reporting to support senior leadership, governance committees, and client-facing risk materials for affiliate partners.
  • Manage and maintain risk data management initiatives in partnership with the Data warehouse management team within technology and operations.

 Derivatives Risk Management (DRM)

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SEC Rule 18f-4 and its operational, compliance, and reporting requirements for derivatives risk management.
  • Experienced in calculating and interpreting Value at Risk (VaR) to assess portfolio market risk and support risk-based decision-making.
  • Skilled in performing back-testing and stress-testing analyses to evaluate model performance and assess portfolio resilience under adverse market conditions.
  • Provide oversight of derivatives exposures across Tidal-managed and supported products, including ETFs and other investment vehicles.
  • Monitor derivative positions, risk factors, margin, liquidity, counterparty exposure, back testing, stress testing and scenario metrics.
  • Partner closely with Portfolio Management, Investment Risk, Compliance, and the Capital Markets team to ensure appropriate derivative usage, documentation, and oversight.
  • Support enhancements to derivatives risk models, measurement tools, and reporting workflows to align with regulatory and industry best practices.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert for derivatives risk for both new product development and ongoing portfolio oversight.

Enterprise Policy Management

  • Design and own Tidal’s policy governance program, ensuring a consistent, scalable, and up-to-date policy framework across the organization.
  • Manage drafting, updating, reviewing, and approving enterprise policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements (SEC, CFTC/NFA, etc.) and Tidal’s operating model.
  • Drive periodic policy attestation processes and uphold strong version control and documentation practices.
  • Partner with policy owners across Compliance, Operations, IT, HR, Capital Markets, and other functions to ensure clarity and accessibility of policy expectations.

 RCSA Program & Risk Technology

  • Own and lead the execution of Tidal’s Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program, ensuring a disciplined and repeatable approach across all business units with support from peer and manager.
  • Facilitate risk and control identification workshops to map processes, inherent risks, control strength, and residual risk.
  • Identify and design Risk Assessable Unit (RAU) structure based on combination of organization structure, services provided and business processes.
  • Oversee documentation, quality review, issue identification & remediation tracking, and timely execution of all RCSA deliverables.
  • Strengthen methodologies, templates, training, and tools to help business owners take ownership of their control environments.
  • Provide meaningful insights from RCSA results that actively inform governance, audits, and risk decision-making.
  • Provide white globe service on risk and control documentation including process flows and procedural documents as needed.
  • Liaise with Technology & Operations on designing a Risk Data reporting layer within the data environment.
  • Liaise with Risk Platform (ERC/GRC tools) with respect to platform connectivity, configuration and data flows to be used for analytics and reporting.
  • Own Risk and Legal related Risks and Controls including owning certain RAUs for mitigation.

 Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as a trusted partner across Tidal’s growth-oriented, entrepreneurial culture—providing balanced challenge, thoughtful insights, and practical recommendations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across Operations, Investment/PM teams, Capital Markets, Compliance, Technology, and Data Engineering.
  • Support governance committees and contribute to strategic risk initiatives across the enterprise.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, helping shape a high-performing, analytical, and accountable risk function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certifications (FRM, CFA, CAIA, PRM) strongly preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of relevant experience in risk management within asset management, ETF platforms, investment management, or broader financial services.
  • Strong technical competence in managing derivatives risk, including understanding of options, swaps, futures, structured instruments, margining, collateral, and liquidity risk.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk analytics, dashboarding, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Python, SQL).
  • Practical understanding of enterprise risk frameworks, operational risk, policy governance, and RCSA execution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable decision support.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment, balancing structure with adaptability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Execution-oriented—drives workstreams to completion with high quality.
  • Collaborative across a highly cross-functional platform business model.
