Vice President, Product Privacy & AI LegalThe Legal TeamWho We Are

HubSpot’s Legal team is a proactive, business-enabling partner—not a back-office function. We help our teams move fast, smart, and responsibly. As HubSpot transforms into an AI-native company, Legal is central to unlocking innovation across our platform while maintaining trust, simplicity, and compliance at scale.

How We Work

At HubSpot, Legal is a growth engine. We value clarity over complexity, ownership over bureaucracy, and empathy over ego. If you’re someone who sees legal frameworks as strategic levers—not roadblocks—let’s talk.

The Role

We’re hiring a Vice President, Product Privacy & AI Legal to lead legal strategy across HubSpot’s global product, privacy, AI, and cybersecurity ecosystem. This is one of the most complex, fast-evolving, and high-impact moments in tech law. We’re looking for a leader who not only thrives in that environment—but defines it.

Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you’ll serve as the principal legal partner to our product, engineering, design, and security teams—guiding how we build, launch, and scale products in a way that’s fast, compliant, and customer-trusted.

This role is for a strategic operator and master simplifier—someone who can navigate ambiguity, connect legal strategy to business outcomes, and build strong relationships with product and engineering leaders by offering clarity, speed, and confidence.

You’ll be joining at a moment of inflection—and you’ll help define what responsible, high-velocity innovation looks like in AI-first products designed to help our customers grow their best.

What You’ll Do (Superpowers You Bring)1. Be the Simplifier-in-Chief

You turn legal ambiguity into clarity—and complexity into confidence. From AI to data privacy to evolving tech laws, you define what HubSpot stands for and make that stance easy to understand, repeatable, and trusted by everyone.

  • Define the Standard. Establish HubSpot’s point of view on AI and data privacy—transparent enough for customers to trust, and intuitive enough for any HubSpotter to speak to and act on.
  • Clarify the Gray. Translate fast-moving legal uncertainties—like LLM prompt/output handling, CRM data enrichment, and AI-generated content attribution—into clear, consistent positions.
  • Scale the Message. Equip GTM and customer-facing teams with the confidence to talk openly about how we use AI and data—making trust an advantage in every conversation.
  • Keep It Thought-Leading. Interpret and evolve HubSpot’s positions in light of global regulation with foresight and practicality—ensuring we stay ahead of the curve, not stuck in it.
2. Be the Trusted Guide Behind Every Bold Bet

You’re a master of influence—embedding customer trust by design and helping HubSpot deliver AI-first innovation with speed, integrity, and confidence.

  • Start with Trust. Make customer trust a default setting by embedding privacy, compliance, and clarity into the foundation of our AI-first innovation.
  • Earn Influence, Don’t Impose It. Build durable partnerships and engagement models by showing up with solutions, not red tape—helping teams make smart tradeoffs and ship what matters, faster
  • Shape the Build. Partner early with Product, Engineering, and AI teams to design features that balance velocity, scale, and responsible innovation—from personalization to enrichment to automation.
  • Enable at Scale. Create tools, playbooks, and frameworks that empower teams to move fast with confidence—so legal is a trusted enabler, not a blocker.
3. Reimagine Legal for an AI-First Future

You bring HubSpot’s “easy, fast” product mindset to Legal—building systems that scale judgment, not just people, and using AI to deliver clarity and speed for every internal stakeholder.

  • Design for Leverage. Build a legal operating model that uses automation, intelligent workflows, and self-service tools to streamline how teams access legal support—fewer bottlenecks and backlogs.
  • Measure What Matters. Define and track performance metrics that make Legal accountable to the business—like cycle times, unblock rates, and privacy or risk health scores.
  • Scale with Smart Defaults. Embed privacy-by-design and responsible AI practices directly into how features are scoped, reviewed, and launched—so compliance is the default, not an afterthought.
4. Build a Team That Scales with the Business—and Shapes What’s Next

You’re a team architect and talent magnet—building a legal org that’s not just built for today, but ready to lead in tomorrow’s AI-powered, product-led world.

  • Structure for Scale. Evolve the structure, roles, and responsibilities across the team to support speed, clarity, and depth—aligned to how HubSpot builds, ships, and grows.
  • Hire for What’s Next. Attract, develop and retain top legal talent in a competitive market—people who think like operators, communicate like product managers, and deliver business impact.
  • Lead with Culture. Foster a high-performing, inclusive team where customer obsession, agility and ownership are the norm—and legal is seen as a growth enabler, not just a risk manager.
What You’ll Bring
  • 15+ years of legal experience spanning product counseling, privacy law, and emerging tech—preferably in fast-paced SaaS or AI-native companies.
  • Expertise in GDPR, CCPA, AI law (including model governance and transparency), copyright (esp. generative content), and cybersecurity.
  • Proven success embedding legal into the product lifecycle—from early roadmap discussions to post-launch risk reviews.
  • Ability to simplify complex, evolving legal frameworks into guidance that accelerates—not slows—product delivery.
  • Strategic operator with a systems-thinking mindset; you’ve built scalable legal operations, not just made case-by-case decisions.
  • Inspirational team leader with a track record of hiring, mentoring, and scaling diverse, high-performing legal teams.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence cross-functional and C-level stakeholders.
  • High integrity, high curiosity, and high clarity—you move confidently through ambiguity with sound judgment and a bias for action.
  • JD and active bar membership required.
  • Bonus: CIPP, CIPM, CISSP, or similar certifications.
