Are you an experienced VP of Engineering who excels at driving transformative change? Percona, a leading provider of open-source database software and services, is seeking a technical VP of Engineering to join our team. This isn't a VP of Engineering role focused on managing a single product or team; rather, you'll be a key leader in orchestrating technical excellence across multiple engineering groups.

This is a fully remote position, and you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse, global team of passionate open-source enthusiasts. You're a high-level strategic thinker with a keen eye for technical detail, and you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves to identify and solve complex problems.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead Technical Transformation: Identify and drive technical initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability across our engineering organization. This includes everything from optimizing our software development lifecycle (SDLC) to helping teams use AI to become more efficient and free up time for product innovation.

  • Mentor and Coach: Act as a technical mentor and coach for engineering leaders and senior individual contributors, helping them grow and excel in their roles.

  • Define and Evangelize Best Practices: Establish and promote engineering best practices, standards, and processes to ensure consistency and excellence across the organization.

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with executive leadership and product management to align technical strategy with business goals.

    What We Are Looking For:

  • Extensive Experience: You have at least five years of experience in engineering leadership, with a strong background in architecture and technical strategy. Knowledge of database internals is useful but not required.

  • Technical Acumen: You possess deep, hands-on technical knowledge of software development, with a strong understanding of open-source technologies, databases, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Transformational Leadership: You have a proven track record of driving significant technical and process improvements across multiple teams or business units - covering testing, building, and shipping enterprise-grade software.

  • Exceptional Communicator: You can articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a collaborative, remote-first environment and can build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Why Percona?

At Percona, we believe an open world is a better world. Our mission is to enable everyone to innovate freely, by providing the best open source database software, support, and services. We make databases and applications run better through a unique combination of expertise and open source software built with the community for you. Our technical teams are experts in MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB.

Percona is proud to be a remote-only and globally dispersed workforce – we have colleagues in more than 50 countries! We offer a collaborative, highly-engaged culture where your ideas are welcome and your voice is heard.

Our staff receives generous benefits including flexible work hours and various paid time off programs, all your equipment for your remote office, funds for career development (external training, certifications, conferences), ongoing connectivity allowances, and the opportunity to participate in our equity incentive plan. We also have benefits that support a healthy work/life balance such as The Percona Adventure Team, Work-from-Anywhere, FlowDays, FryDays, and overall flexibility. We also support being socially responsible through our PAVE volunteering program and Women Transforming Technology.

If you love the idea of working with a high-growth tech company that is one of the best in the business and known globally as a leader in the open-source database space, let’s talk!

Connect with us and stay up to date on our latest news and developments by following us on LinkedIn and Twitter. We look forward to connecting with you!
