The Director of Marketing leads the strategic direction and execution of marketing and corporate communications initiatives at Plaza Home Mortgage. This role is responsible for driving brand awareness, lead generation, and client engagement through targeted strategies across multiple distribution channels. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in mortgage or financial services marketing, a strong command of digital trends, and a proven track record in client acquisition.
 
This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and manages a team that may include the Content Marketing Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, Marketing Associate, Marketing Coordinator, and Marketing Interns. The role also oversees external marketing and communications vendors. The position is based at our San Diego headquarters, with potential for a hybrid work arrangement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy
  • Develop and lead marketing strategies aligned with business goals across Wholesale, Mini Correspondent/Non-Delegated, National Correspondent, and Reverse mortgage lending channels.
  • Analyze market trends, competition, and client behavior to identify new opportunities.
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor internal marketing staff and external agency partners.
  •  Brand Management
  • Maintain and evolve the company’s brand in partnership with the CMO.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all distribution channels, platforms, and touchpoints.
  •  Digital Marketing
  • Oversee SEO, SEM, email, social media, and content marketing efforts.
  • Optimize campaigns for engagement, lead generation, and client retention.
  • Manage Plaza’s CRM and marketing automation platforms, supporting process milestone-based communications.
  • Drive initiatives to increase Google reviews and manage third-party vendors.
  • Develop and lead broker rewards and recognition programs.
  •  Content Marketing & Communications
  • Oversee development of marketing collateral, product announcements, rate sheet, and related marketing communications.
  • Lead internal and external communications, including intranet content, leadership messages, and Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery crisis communications.
  • Support compliance-related marketing needs and corporate suggestions box engagement.
  •  Event Management
  • Oversee planning and execution of industry conferences, tradeshows, internal sales meetings, award trips, and client events.
  • Manage event budgets and logistics.
  •  Community Outreach
  • Coordinate charitable and community engagement efforts, including sales award event outreach and corporate giving.
  •  Analytics & Reporting
  • Define and track KPIs across all marketing initiatives.
  • Use data insights to refine campaigns and inform strategic decisions.

  • Manage marketing budgets and vendor relationships across areas such as creative services, CRM, media buying, events, and related marketing services.

  • Recruit, train, develop, and retain high-performing marketing talent.
  • Manage team workflows, priorities, and project management systems.

Required Skills and Education

  • Proven leadership in marketing strategy and team management
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Expertise in digital marketing and social media strategy
  • Experience in the mortgage banking or financial services sector preferred
  • High attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to balance creative and analytical thinking
  • Results-driven, bottom line, analytical orientation 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred
  • 10-15+ years of marketing leadership experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop; Illustrator a plus)
  • Video production/editing experience is a plus
