The Vice President of Business Development, BioPharma & Research will be a key executive in driving the growth and expansion of the organization. This position requires a strategic visionary who can identify and capitalize on opportunities, foster relationships with key stakeholders, formulate strategies and lead initiatives to achieve business objectives and revenue targets.
The VP will conduct extensive market research, analyze industry trends, and develop comprehensive strategies to penetrate the BioPharma & Research market segments. Success in this role demands exceptional strategic planning, market analysis, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of market dynamics.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences or related field. MBA preferred.
· Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in business development roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
· Proven track record in formulating and executing strategies to achieve business development objectives, with a focus on efficiency and productivity.
· Strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders that produces significant business results.
· Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
· Proven track-record of working effectively with various departments, including sales, marketing, finance, and technology, to align operational strategies with broader business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
· Strategic Planning and Analysis
o Market Research: Conduct detailed market research to identify potential new markets, assess demand, and understand the competitive landscape.
o Industry Analysis: Analyze industry trends and competitor activities for informed strategic planning, identify opportunities and threats.
o Strategic Planning: Develop, refine, and implement a comprehensive business development plan that aligns with overall strategic goals of the company.
o Forecasting: Create accurate forecasts and set performance metrics to measure the success of business initiatives.
o Proposal Development: Lead the preparation of high-quality proposals, presentations, and supporting documents for potential partnerships or collaborations.
· Relationship Building and Partnerships:
o Client Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with potential and existing clients, understanding their needs and create solutions to meet them.
o Partnership Development: Identify, negotiate, and finalize strategic partnerships to enhance market presence and drive growth.
o Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations to secure contracts and deals that benefit both client and Baylor Genetics, ensuring favorable terms and conditions.
o Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders at all levels to facilitate continuity of business operations and anticipate any bottlenecks or obstacles to winning new business.
· Operational Excellence and Communication:
o Compliance: Stay up-to-date on industry regulations and legal requirements to ensure all business activities are compliant.
o Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive reports on market research, strategic initiatives, and performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
o Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, legal, and operations, to ensure cohesive and effective implementation of business strategies.
o Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and utilization of key performance metrics to drive informed decisions and improvements in business development activities.
· Leadership and Team Management:
o Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the dedicated resources and cross-functional BioPharma & Research team, setting clear goals and expectations.
o Team Development: Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
o Project Management: Assist with or own specific projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
o Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability in all interactions and business dealings.
· Business Development and Growth:
o Revenue Targets: Set and achieve revenue targets for BioPharma & Research markets.
o Product Adaptation: Work with product development / management / enhancement / execution teams to adapt offerings to meet needs and preferences.
o Sales Strategies: Develop and implement effective sales strategies to penetrate new markets and drive sales growth.
o Market Entry: Plan and execute market entry strategies, including identifying and working with local distributors, agents, and partners.
Skills and Competencies:
· Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills.
· Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task across different projects and events in parallel.
· Ability to adapt to change in an evolving environment.
· Comfortable taking ownership of projects and working both independently and in a collaborative team setting.
· Must be proficient with MS Office, Salesforce, Tableau, LMS systems and Articulate.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
· Frequent travel (up to 50%) required for client meetings and industry events.
· Frequently required to sit, talk, and listen.
· Regular use of computer, keyboard, and standard office equipment.
· May be required to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
