The Opportunity

AssetMark is seeking a VP, Head of Platform Engineering to lead the development of our foundational technology platform. Reporting to the SVP, Head of Product Engineering, this senior leadership role will be responsible for building and leading a team of 50+ engineers focused on creating a robust, scalable, and secure horizontal platform of services and APIs that will underpin our entire product estate.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering leader with a proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-scale platform architectures. This role requires a strategic visionary who can establish platform engineering as a core discipline within our organization while developing canonical source-of-truth data systems that enable seamless integration across our wealth management solutions.

Working closely with a Head of Platform Product counterpart, you will drive the technical vision, architecture, and execution of a centralized platform strategy that accelerates product development, ensures data integrity, and creates a foundation for future innovation and growth.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to one of our following offices: Concord, CA or Charlotte, NC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Vision & Strategy: Define and execute the technical vision for AssetMark's enterprise platform architecture, including services, APIs, data models, and integration patterns
  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering organization of 40-50+ engineers focused on platform development and data management
  • Technology Modernization: Transform our technology infrastructure into a modern, API-first platform that enables rapid product development and seamless integration
  • Data Architecture: Establish and safeguard canonical source-of-truth data systems and governance policies across the enterprise
  • Enterprise Integration: Design and implement standardized patterns for service integration, data exchange, and cross-application workflows
  • Technical Standards: Develop comprehensive technical standards, best practices, and reference architectures for platform components
  • API Governance: Create and enforce API design principles, versioning strategies, and governance models that enable controlled evolution of the platform
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure platform architecture meets stringent security, compliance, and regulatory requirements for financial services
  • Technology Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Head of Platform Product to align technical capabilities with business objectives and product roadmaps
  • Cross-Team Enablement: Partner with product engineering teams to facilitate adoption of platform services and APIs while providing guidance on implementation
  • Performance & Scalability: Design systems that meet stringent performance requirements and can scale to support business growth
  • Innovation Leadership: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for platform innovation

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Deep expertise in designing and implementing API-first, service-oriented architectures
  • Extensive experience with data modeling, master data management, and enterprise data governance
  • Strong background in cloud-native architectures, microservices, event-driven systems, and modern development practices
  • Track record of successfully transforming legacy systems into modern, scalable platform architectures
  • Expertise in establishing engineering excellence through standardization, automation, and best practices
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code principles
  • Proven experience building and leading large engineering teams (40+ engineers) in enterprise environments
  • Experience implementing technology platforms in regulated industries, preferably in financial services

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 8+ years in platform engineering leadership roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $250,000-$280,000.

 

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
