POSITION SUMMARY:
The VP of Finance for the Software Business Unit will serve as a key financial executive and strategic partner to the President of the Software Business Unit and the Corporate CFO. This individual will be responsible for the full spectrum of financial management within the business unit, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, P&L forecasting, cohort-based revenue analysis, cost productivity initiatives, sales compensation planning, revenue recognition, cost control, audit support, and the tracking and administration of all partner and enterprise agreements.
This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic financial acumen and the ability to operate at a detailed level. The VP of Finance will work cross-functionally across the organization and serve as the primary financial steward for one of Carestream Dental's most critical growth areas.
KEY/SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare, own, and deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the Software Business Unit. Provide the President and Corporate CFO with meaningful variance analysis, business insights, and commentary to support informed decision-making.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecast cycles for the business unit. Partner with functional leaders to build bottoms-up financial plans aligned with strategic objectives, and maintain rigorous forecast discipline to ensure predictability.
Revenue Recognition (Rev Rec): Ensure all revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC 606 and applicable accounting standards. Partner with Sales, Legal, and Accounting to properly structure and account for software licenses, SaaS subscriptions, professional services, and multi-element arrangements.
Cost Management & Control: Identify, monitor, and drive cost optimization opportunities across the business unit. Establish financial controls and spending guardrails that support growth while maintaining operational discipline. Provide leadership with actionable insights on cost structure and efficiency improvements.
Audit Support: Serve as the primary business unit point of contact for internal and external audits. Ensure audit readiness through strong documentation, internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and corporate policies. Collaborate with the Corporate Finance and Accounting teams to facilitate seamless audit processes.
Partner & Enterprise Agreement Tracking: Maintain a comprehensive repository and financial ledger for all partner agreements, enterprise customer contracts, and licensing arrangements. Ensure accurate tracking of commitments, entitlements, billing milestones, and renewal terms, and proactively surface financial risks or opportunities embedded in these agreements.
Strategic Partnership: Act as a trusted financial advisor to the President of the Software Business Unit, providing proactive financial guidance on business initiatives, go-to-market decisions, pricing strategy, M&A evaluation, and investment planning. Maintain a close working relationship with the Corporate CFO to ensure alignment with enterprise-wide financial objectives.
P&L Forecasting & Financial Modeling: Own the end-to-end P&L forecasting process for the Software Business Unit, including monthly, quarterly, and annual projections across revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, and EBITDA. Develop and maintain dynamic financial models that reflect business assumptions, scenario analysis, and sensitivities to support executive decision-making. Ensure forecast accuracy through disciplined cadence management and variance accountability across functional owners.
Cost Productivity & Operational Efficiency: Lead the business unit’s cost productivity agenda by identifying and executing initiatives that improve operating leverage and resource efficiency. Establish a structured framework for tracking cost-per-unit metrics, headcount productivity, and vendor spend optimization. Partner with functional leaders to build accountability for efficiency targets and report progress against cost productivity goals on a regular basis to senior leadership.
Revenue Analysis by Cohort: Design and maintain a cohort-based revenue analytics framework to track customer acquisition, retention, expansion, and churn trends across customer segments, contract vintages, and product lines. Provide actionable insights on net revenue retention (NRR), logo retention, and lifetime value (LTV) to inform go-to-market strategy and investment decisions. Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, and Product to ensure cohort data integrity and translate findings into forward-looking revenue projections.
Sales Compensation & Promotions: Collaborate with Sales Leadership to design, model, and administer sales compensation plans, quota frameworks, and promotional programs that align seller incentives with revenue objectives and margin targets. Evaluate the financial impact of proposed compensation structures and sales promotions prior to implementation, and provide ongoing reporting on attainment, plan effectiveness, and cost of sales. Serve as the financial governance partner for any commission plan changes, SPIFFs, or deal-specific incentive arrangements.
REQUIRED SKILLS/PREFERRED SKILLS
Software/SaaS Finance Expertise: 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with significant exposure to software or SaaS business models, including recurring revenue metrics, ARR/MRR tracking, and subscription-based financial reporting.
Technical Accounting Proficiency: Deep working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition, GAAP financial reporting, and internal controls. Experience managing complex multi-element software arrangements is strongly preferred.
Business Partnership & Executive Presence: Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic partner to senior operating leaders. Confident communicator capable of translating complex financial data into clear business insights for non-finance audiences.
Financial Systems & Tools: Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent), financial planning tools (Adaptive Insights, Anaplan, or similar), and advanced Excel modeling. Experience with CRM-integrated revenue reporting (Salesforce) is a plus.
Contract & Agreement Management: Experience managing and interpreting complex partner and enterprise agreements from a financial perspective, including tracking obligations, revenue implications, and compliance requirements.
Audit & Compliance Experience: Hands-on experience supporting internal and external audit processes, including documentation of controls, SOX compliance (if applicable), and coordination with auditors.
EDUCATION (Required/Preferred)
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Preferred: MBA, CPA, or CMA designation strongly preferred.
TRAVEL
- Occasional Domestic Travel may be required.
Competitive Salary, based on experience: $200,000 - $250,000
