As the leading authority in Loyalty, Rewards, and Travel; The Points Guy is looking for an innovative leader to bring their brand and design from Business Class to First Class. We are looking for an experienced and visionary VP of Design to lead designers, creative writers and UX researchers and be a driving force in creating refreshed world-class experiences across our platforms and products. This role calls for a highly organized and driven leader who enjoys operating as a player/coach - inspiring others through bold creative visions and implementing processes to uplevel quality and evolve teams by defining high standards and practices. You will be responsible for building, leading, and mentoring a high-performing team of skilled creatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead a multi-discipline creative team including product design, visual design, photography, UX research and content design (approx. 15+). Drive team and direct their efforts in designing wholly revamped web and iOS/Native experiences. This includes new products, news, reviews, special features, affiliate experiences and experimental interactive storytelling.
  • Create and uphold high standards and strategies for design excellence, and challenge work that does not meet it; ensuring all solutions are modern, aesthetically pleasing and improve engagement, usability and accessibility.
  • Scale quality by implementing design standards and best practices across the team and organization. Evolve established design systems and introduce industry best practices for interactive design.
  • Recruit, develop, challenge and manage performance of a team of designers working across multiple projects. Build a formidable team organized around strengths, velocity and impact. Actively promote employee growth paths and talent retention.
  • Regularly connect with TPG leadership to ensure concepts are aligned with strategies and deliver on goals. Participate in business strategy conversations and advocate for creative solutions that drive value.
  • Build strong relationships with Business Leads, Engineering leaders, Product Managers, Developers, Editorial Leaders, Video Producers and Data Analysts to create and iterate world-class user experiences.
  • Mentor direct reports, and equip managers to do the same. Give clear and usable design feedback. Elevate work through coaching and design critiques: share your insights and experience in 1:1 and team sessions. Nurture areas of development.
  • Provide visibility and accountability for your team’s work. Present work to stakeholders and partners, explaining the creative process and how concepts align with business goals and customer needs.

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years of experience in design with at least 5 years experience in a leadership capacity (experience leading 5+ designers)
  • Experience working on consumer-facing products and mobile apps.
  • An avid evangelist of design with a great eye for detail exemplified through a strong portfolio and track record of driving User and performance success.
  • Practitioner of user-centric processes and design-thinking principles. Full understanding of design fundamentals along with mastery of modern interactive design best practices.
  • Design background in UI/UX, testing and optimization, brand and design strategy.
  • An inclusive leader who believes in building an environment where everyone belongs and creating teams that are highly engaged and galvanized around common goals.
  • Experience managing and developing local and remote talent; You love coaching and mentoring designers and can decisively assign the right talent profile to the right project.
  • A confident communicator who can present bold visions to cross-functional teams and stakeholders with credibility, clarity, and confidence while nurturing a culture of trust and collaboration.
  • Experience leading workshops and facilitating collaboration, iteration and testing within a team environment (local and remote).
  • Fluency in industry standard tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe CC, Asana, etc.
  • A commitment to learning: about points + miles, the credit card industry, our businesses, evolving standards, styles and practices and most importantly our users’ needs and pain points.
  • Experience with video and motion graphics is a plus.

Compensation

  • USA Compensation Range: $185,000 - $275,000*
    • New York City Compensation Range: $231,250 - $343,750*
      *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
