What You're Applying For:
As a Vehicle Test Editor at Edmunds, you will play a vital role on America's Best Test Team, crafting some of the most important and widely read content on our site. When car shoppers seek reliable, trustworthy information about new cars, trucks, and SUVs, they turn to the informed insights of our editorial team.
In this position, you'll conduct instrumented vehicle testing at the Edmunds Test Track and perform real-world range and charge assessments on electric vehicles. This quantitative data is crucial for shaping every vehicle rating and ranking on our platform. You will also be a key content creator, expected to be knowledgeable and unbiased while effectively connecting with car shoppers.
Your writing must be clear and engaging, cutting through the noise to help shoppers discover the right vehicle for their needs.
What You'll Do:

  • Evaluate and Rate Vehicles: Assess new cars to determine their strengths, weaknesses, and overall competitiveness.
  • Instrumented Testing: Assist in weekly instrumented tests at the Edmunds Test Track in Carson, CA.
  • EV Range and Charging Tests: Perform real-world electric vehicle range and charging tests.
  • Data Post-Processing: Process raw vehicle test data according to Edmunds and SAE standards.
  • Industry Representation: Attend and report on industry events as an Edmunds representative, building relationships with industry insiders.
  • Content Creation: Write and update content to provide Edmunds users with the information they need to make smart buying decisions.
  • Long-Term Testing Support: Work independently and cooperatively with stakeholders to generate timely and insightful content about cars in the Edmunds test fleet.
  • Video Production: Potentially assist in producing videos as a high-performance driver and/or on-camera talent for single-car reviews, vehicle comparison tests, and first-drive press events.


What You Need:

  • Seasoned Professional: A seasoned career in automotive journalism with a proven record of high-quality vehicle evaluations across various market segments.
  • High-Performance Driving: High-performance driving experience and excellent car control.
  • Writing Skills: High-level writing skills that make complex data engaging and accessible.
  • Passion for Data: A strong interest in vehicle dynamics and electric vehicle range and charge testing.
  • Technical Aptitude: Solid grasp of technical concepts and good troubleshooting skills.
  • Bonus Skills: Knowledge of Racelogic VBox hardware/software is a plus.
  • Driving Requirements: Driving is integral to this role; applicants must be able to pass a motor vehicle records check and meet the requirements of the Edmunds Policy on Authorized Driving.
  • Experience: B.S. Mechanical Engineering or similar, preferred. Minimum of 4 years in the field.


The compensation range for this position is $ 87,000 - $110,000 per year. The base pay will take into account internal equity as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
