The Underwriting Assistant provides high-level support to underwriters and underwriting managers across program business accounts. This position plays a key role in facilitating end-to-end underwriting operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and audits. The role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial lines and program structures, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to support underwriting workflow within fast-paced, high-volume environments.
This role can be a hybrid work arrangement from our Avon, CT office or Remote.
Responsibilities:
- Manage intake and triage of new submissions, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations for assigned programs.
- Prepare underwriting files and ensure completeness of documentation prior to underwriter review.
- Enter and maintain data in policy administration and rating systems; ensure data accuracy and alignment with underwriting guidelines.
- Generate quotes, binders, and policy documents under supervision or within delegated authority.
- Track and manage service-level timelines to ensure deadlines are met across all program-related tasks.
- Communicate with brokers, MGAs, and internal departments to collect missing information and respond to status inquiries.
- Assist with program onboarding, audits, bordereaux reconciliation, and reporting as needed.
- Identify process inefficiencies and support continuous improvement efforts in workflow and service delivery.
- Stay current on internal underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and program-specific procedures.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
- Insurance certifications (e.g., AINS, CPCU) a plus.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in an underwriting support role, preferably with experience in program or delegated authority business.
- Solid understanding of commercial lines insurance (e.g., GL, Property, Auto, WC, or Specialty lines).
- Familiarity with underwriting platforms, document management systems, and rating tools.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Excel skills highly valued.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across internal and external teams.
