Job Summary

The Underwriting Analyst will have responsibility to design and implement automated underwriting rules and guidelines that are necessary to support the sales and profitability of life product portfolio.  The primary focus of this role is on implementing innovations in life underwriting with respect to data sources, data analytics, automation, processes and programs. Additionally, this position will have some responsibility doing work in production underwriting and / or post issue management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and determine the impact on mortality of current and emerging risk selection requirements and tools
  • Monitor production reports and metrics; collaborate with underwriting and operations staff to improve results.
  • Provide underwriting expertise to data warehouse initiatives; support efforts to use data to develop leading indicators of mortality
  • Support efforts in moving F&G towards automated and rules-based underwriting; drive initiatives as assigned
  • Write underwriting rules for automated systems, audit and maintain rules sets
  • Review and evaluate life insurance applications to assess risk in accordance with company guidelines as needed
  • Make decisions on policy issuance, rating or decline within designated authority
  • Identify opportunities to improve department performance and escalates ideas to leadership
  • Work with Operations and Underwriting Analysts to socialize and implement enhanced and new underwriting methods
  • Work with IT and vendors when necessary to adjust rules or implement new rules
  • Work with data analytics and actuarial team to monitor and analyze results of underwriting automation efficacy of data utilization in underwriting

Experience and Education Requirements

  • AA degree required; BA degree preferred
  • Relevant experience considered in lieu of degree
  • 3+ years of Life Underwriting experience including familiarity with metrics analysis, underwriting data sources and tools
  • Experience evaluating underwriting data sources and solutions, underwriting rules writing and solutions implementation a plus

  • Understands how respective coverage area operates within the context of the industry
  • Ability to Quickly process information and develop solutions in real-time, with practical, measurable business benefits
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to serve the customer
  • Ability to read a wide range of audiences and situations and quickly adjusts communication style accordingly; selects appropriate communication channel and tone to deliver tough messages
  • Ability to coach and mentor colleagues on digital techniques and accelerators used at F&G
  • Seeks opportunities to cultivate relationships with established contacts in their network
  • Provides guidance on what information to gather to achieve business objectives and how to efficiently obtain information that is not easily available
  • Expected to provide regulatory subject matter expertise in area of focus

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects, as assigned
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Some travel required (less than 5%)
