Software engineer (UI, frontend)

Gridium’s mission is to hasten the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our software helps people run commercial buildings better, at lower cost and with less energy. Gridium is looking for a front end software engineer to help us bring deep efficiency to the built environment, which is responsible for 40% of the world’s energy use.

Your role

We are seeking a U.S.-based software engineer with strong experience developing user interfaces for data-intensive applications. The ideal candidate is a generalist who is comfortable working on a variety of user-facing tasks, including improving user experience in our Ember.js application, designing new visualizations, and working with internal and external APIs. While your primary focus will be frontend development, you'll have opportunities to contribute across the stack (which also includes d3.js, Python, Postgres, and Open Search, all hosted on AWS).

Candidates must have deep experience with AI coding and prototyping tools, and an understanding of their strengths, weaknesses, and how best to use these tools to accelerate product delivery. As this is a rapidly developing area, we expect candidates to approach AI tools with curiosity and enthusiasm, tempered with realistic expectations.

In this position you will:

  • Build scalable and maintainable front-end applications to help our customers visualize their energy data and help them reach their sustainability goals.

  • Write readable, well-documented, and testable code and technical specifications, adhering to established coding standards and best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to improve code quality and foster knowledge sharing.

  • Work closely with product managers and our customer success team to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements
  • Deeply proficient with AI coding tools, and enthusiastic about exploring frontier AI capabilities.

  • Extensive hands-on experience creating intuitive, data-rich user interfaces with a modern JavaScript framework such as Ember.js or React.

  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and application architectural patterns, including consuming JSON-API data, writing tests, and developing style guides.

  • Comfortable analyzing product requirements to produce technical specifications including task breakdown, testing plans, and monitoring strategies.

  • Strong understanding of software development practices such as code review, test coverage, and CI/CD.

  • Must currently reside in the United States and have the legal right to work in the United States.

  • At least five years experience as a member of a software engineering team.

About Gridium

Gridium is a venture-backed SaaS application provider with a mission to bring cost-effective energy savings to commercial real estate. We have been delivering deep energy savings to our customers for ten years, and we are now growing faster than ever due to increasing demand for real energy solutions.

We have been an all-remote company since our founding, and we love the flexibility it affords. Remote work allows you to structure your day with minimal interruption so that you can get stuff done in the style that makes most sense for you. (And if for you that means an office in a coworking space, we’ll provide that too.)

Of course, spending time face-to-face is important, so several times each year we pick a city and meet up for several days of highly productive and highly fun planning and doing. We have a casual, cooperative work environment where everyone’s ideas matter.

And of course

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Benefits

The position comes with salary, stock options, 401(k) match, a great health plan, vision, dental, life insurance, disability insurance, generous parental leave, and a flexible vacation policy — we want you to take the time off you need so that you are happy and productive.
