Want to influence how risk is managed across critical corporate technology platforms? Our Global Risk & Security (GR&S) is hiring a Senior Technical Risk Advisor!

This senior-level role operates at the intersection of operational risk management and technology. The Technical Risk Advisor partners with business and technology teams—particularly those supporting HR technology and third‑party–enabled platforms—to assess risk, shape controls, and ensure effective risk practices are embedded within the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide risk guidance, oversight, and assurance services to enterprise and divisional partners based on Vanguard's operational and strategic risk framework. Ensure the development and implementation of effective divisional risk controls within the assigned department.

  • Lead the effectiveness of risk management practices within the assigned area. Establish and manage risk management objectives, assess the identification and management of risk exposure, and identify and prioritize existing and emerging risks. Advise on appropriate control design and testing to support departmental risk goals.

  • Own the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of risk management strategy for the assigned department in alignment with department objectives, standard risk management policies and procedures, and overall enterprise risk direction.

  • Partner with the business to mitigate risks and improve process efficiency. Apply industry best practices to design and enhance controls and recommend adjustments to risk management strategies as the business, technology, and third-party landscape evolves. Provide consultation, facilitation, and analytical support as new products, services, processes, and procedures are introduced.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with enterprise and divisional partners to understand departmental risk needs and act as a trusted risk advisor.

  • Assess the design and effectiveness of existing controls, identify opportunities for improvement using industry best practices, and apply the risk management framework when discussing risk exposures with the business.

  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in operational and/or technology risk management, with the ability to assess and advise on risks across people, processes, and technology within corporate systems environments.

  • Strong understanding of information technology and integrated corporate platforms, including experience supporting internally facing systems such as HR technology.

  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior stakeholders through subject matter expertise; experience with third-party risk management and risk tools (e.g., Archer) preferred.
