Ford Energy is a newly formed, wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company dedicated to accelerating U.S. energy independence. Leveraging Ford’s century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. We are not just building batteries; we are building the infrastructure for the next generation of the American grid.

Why Ford Energy?
At Ford Energy, you have the backing of an industrial manufacturing powerhouse with the agility of a dedicated energy startup offering industry leading technology. We offer a competitive compensation package including performance-based bonuses, Ford vehicle discounts, and the opportunity to shape the energy strategy of one of the world's most iconic brands.

In this position...

The Technical Solution Leader will serve as the senior Technical Solution Lead for the Ford Energy sales team and our customers. This role is critical in leading a team of technical solution engineers, translating complex customer requirements into optimized BESS configurations, and establishing the governance for the technical solution process. You will be responsible for serving as the final technical authority for all bids, ensuring that Ford Energy’s solutions are "bankable," safety-compliant, and aligned with our long-term service and reliability standards. This highly visible senior role will bridge the gap between commercial strategy and engineering execution, interfacing directly with internal and external executives to drive the subsidiary's growth.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

  • Strategic Governance & Technical Authority
    • Serve as the final technical authority with sign-off for all bids, ensuring alignment with the subsidiary's technical risk and governance standards.
    • Embed a "Safety-First" culture into the solution design phase, ensuring all proposed configurations meet or exceed industry safety and regulatory standards (UL/NFPA).
    • Own the intake, triage, and prioritization of customer requests, ensuring effective workload balance across the technical solutions team.
  • Product Roadmap & Closing the Loop
    • Formalize the "closed-loop" process, ensuring customer technical requirements, market trends, and field learnings are systematically fed back into the Product Roadmap.
    • Prioritize "Design for Serviceability" by ensuring sales configurations focus on long-term asset reliability, uptime, and ease of maintenance, rather than just the initial sale.
    • Provide clear technical recommendations and risk assessments to support long-term commercial strategy and bid positioning.
  • Executive Influence & Solution Leadership
    • Serve as the primary technical interface for internal and external executives, representing Ford Energy in high-stakes customer reviews and strategic business discussions.
    • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of technical solutions engineers, establishing a culture of technical rigor and commercial urgency.
    • Establish and continuously improve technical solutions workflows and governance to increase speed, quality, and consistency of executive-level proposals.
  • Technical Execution & Cross-Functional Alignment
    • Oversee the technical scoping and configuration of BESS projects, including system sizing (MW/MWh) and site layout optimizations.
    • Interface with simulation teams to model battery degradation and financial performance (LCOS/NPV) based on specific customer use cases.
    • Ensure a seamless technical handoff from the solutioning phase to delivery and commissioning, capturing lessons learned for recurrence prevention.

Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering, or Product Development within the energy or automotive sectors.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with executive-level stakeholders and driving technical governance.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, batteries, and battery management systems.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master’s degree or MBA in a related field.
  • Direct experience with stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and familiarity with grid-scale standards (UL 9540A, NFPA 855).
  • Experience building or improving technical solutions processes and operating rhythms for a new business unit.
  • Working knowledge of wholesale electricity markets and grid operations (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO).
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment within a larger corporate structure.
  • Leadership Attributes
    • Strategic Visionary who can align technical configurations with long-term business and service goals.
    • Executive Presence with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and technical leaders.
    • Customer-Obsessed Leader who prioritizes long-term reliability and "bankable" solutions.
    • Highly organized and structured leader capable of managing complex technical dependencies.
  • Location & Travel
    • Location & Travel Southeast Michigan or Glendale, KY preferred. Remote arrangements will be considered for candidates with specialized expertise. Role requires domestic travel as needed

This position is leadership level 5 and ranges from $141,700-268,300.
