Nerdwallet’s SEO team is looking for a Technical SEO Lead to drive organic growth by implementing advanced technical SEO strategies for our enterprise-level websites. This role ensures optimal site performance, crawlability, and indexability by collaborating closely with engineering, product, and content teams. Through audits, innovative solutions, and continuous monitoring, the person in this role will identify and resolve complex technical challenges to maintain competitive search engine visibility and scalability. This position exists to bridge technical expertise with strategic SEO goals, ensuring NerdWallet remains a leader in organic search performance.

We’re looking for a results-driven Technical SEO expert who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of search engine algorithms, crawling, indexing, and ranking factors, with a proven track record of driving organic growth for enterprise-level websites. You should be proficient in tools like Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, Botify, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Python for automation. A proactive and analytical mindset is essential, along with the ability to identify technical SEO issues, develop scalable solutions, and collaborate cross-functionally with developers, product managers, and content teams. Strong communication skills are key, as you'll need to clearly convey complex SEO concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. If you’re passionate about staying ahead of industry trends, testing new strategies, and driving continuous SEO improvements, we’d love to hear from you.

This role reports to the Manager, Analytics.

Where you can make an impact: 

  • Regularly audit and monitor NerdWallet’s Technical SEO performance through first- and third-party tools. Determine the right course of action and devise project proposals.
  • Partner with Product/Engineering on the SEO team as well as cross-functional Partners across NerdWallet to implement your proposals.
  • Collaborate with these partners to understand their needs and pain points, and how Technical SEO can help them.
  • Research developments and innovations in the Technical SEO industry for possible application at NerdWallet.
  • Build company-wide support for Technical SEO priorities. 
  • Research and implement cutting-edge technical SEO innovations to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Monitor and report on technical SEO performance metrics and their impact on organic growth.
  • Audit and resolve website technical issues, including page speed, schema markup, and mobile optimization.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated into the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement technical SEO strategies to enhance site performance, crawlability, and indexability.

Your experience:

  • 7+ years of hands-on technical SEO experience with enterprise-level websites.
  • Strong knowledge of how search engines crawl, index, and rank websites, and how websites manage crawlers through robots.txt files, sitemaps, canonicals, and metas.
  • Deep expertise in website architecture, Core Web Vitals, technical auditing, structured data, log file analysis, JavaScript SEO, internal linking strategies, and page-speed optimization.
  • Proficient in SEO tools (e.g., Screaming Frog, SEMrush, AHREFs, Google Search Console) and analytics platforms. Able to analyze server log files.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working with engineering, product, and editorial teams.
