About the Team

At HubSpot, we’re building the future of extensibility in our developer platform. The App Frameworks Backend team creates the backend systems that power the entire lifecycle of UI Extensions across all surfaces in HubSpot—making it possible for third party developers to build high-quality, HubSpot-native apps that integrate seamlessly into our product.

We’re looking for a Backend Technical Lead II to help us shape this future. You’ll lead a small, talented team and design scalable backend frameworks that empower developers around the world to extend HubSpot in powerful new ways.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the design and development of backend systems that enable UI extensibility across HubSpot.
  • Guide a team of engineers, providing clear direction and actionable feedback.
  • Stay hands-on in code while setting technical vision and strategy.
  • Partner with product and design to deliver impactful projects end-to-end.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend, CRM, and other platform teams to connect backend infrastructure with customer- and developer-facing experiences.
  • Build stability and confidence within the team, fostering trust and psychological safety.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong backend engineering expertise (Java experience required) with proven experience leading small teams.
  • Someone who loves to take ownership, work collaboratively, and figure things out in a fast-moving environment.
  • Comfort with frontend concepts (JavaScript, React) and end-to-end systems design, even if not a full-stack developer.
  • Someone who prefers solving problems with technology rather than process
  • A proven ability to solve complex technical problems and evaluate trade-offs while keeping the customer and developer experience in mind
  • Ability to create clarity in complex, ambiguous situations and guide the team with calm, thoughtful decision-making.
  • Someone who can see opportunities beyond current practices and help shape a long-term vision for where we’re headed
  • A passion for mentoring engineers, building inclusive teams, and raising the bar for technical excellence.
