Job Description SummaryThe Gas Power Technology Compliance (GPTC) organization is responsible for Technical Regulations and Standards (TRS) review and application to Products and Projects. GPTC provides coverage in TRS expertise and applicability throughout the entire lifecycle of Power Generation equipment including New Product Introduction (NPI), Inquiry to Order (ITO), Order to Remittance (OTR) and Services.
GPTC is seeking Senior Engineer responsible for driving compliance with global codes & standards for GP Controls Platform. The successful candidate will be the lead for maintaining & executing UL/CSA, IEC, CE and other International, national, local certifications for Controls platform.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The Senior Compliance Engineer, Controls Platform will be responsible for the following work scope:

  • Technical execution of UL / CSA, IEC, CE and other international, national, and local standards certification for all the GP Controls platform products
  • Lead Controls NPI, product engineering, & manufacturing teams to optimize the design for regulatory compliance 
  • Interpret code requirements and ensure practical application to product design
  • Manage relationships with notified bodies for codes and standards regulatory compliance and certification - coordinate reviews and reports with agency approval bodies 
  • Lead for agency liaison interface for compliance issues during product development, application engineering and customer project execution 
  • Lead in resolving manufacturing, design, and field problems for regulatory compliance issues 
  • Lead equipment inspections & audits in manufacturing for compliance with codes 
  • Review processes and procedures of GE’s manufacturing facilities to be certified 
  • Documentation control of compliance plans and final certification
  • Mentor & Coach Engineering & TRS Teams on regulatory requirements, application & execution for GP Controls
  • Responsible to maintain & support demand capacity on Controls Platform development for Regulatory compliance working with TRS Leadership & functional teams across Global Supply Chain & Controls
  • Lead EMC Category Specialist role within GPTC
  • Lean & Maintain EMC DP for GPE
  • Partner with GPTC project team to support cost impact/studies for regulatory compliance pertaining to Controls Product line
  • Partner with Controls Platform Team & support IEC 61508/IEC 61511 SIL Certification as needed from EMC/EMI Testing & reporting standpoint on SIL Controller & Panel assemblies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following additional tasks:

  • Partner closely with Controls System Engineering Teams to ensure integrated system design solutions and common process/practices to minimize non-value-added engineering & design efforts.
  • Work closely with Controls Manufacturing facilities to streamline design process, eliminate inefficiencies and improve overall productivity on regulatory compliance processes & shipment hold procedures.
  • Be proactive towards business initiatives such as Quality, PLM multi-generation roll out, Productivity (Lean), Product Cost Out (PCO) and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an accredited college or university or equivalent (Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science & Electrical Engineer preferred)
  • 8-10 years experience in engineering design
  • Strong understanding of Controls HW Platform on GE Mark*, LS2100e & EX2100e Product family
  • Strong understanding of IEC, EU Directives (ATEX, Low Voltage Directive, EMC, Machinery) as a minimum
  • Occasional travel required

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior knowledge & experience in EMC & Low voltage testing with agencies
  • Prior Experience in working with specific Regulatory compliance agencies (CSA, UL, Intertek or similar)
  • Proven ability to work with manufacturing & sourcing to expediently resolve technical issues
  • Demonstrated dedication to GE Spirit & Letter, high level of integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with design engineering counterparts
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with peers and leadership
  • Strong organizational, facilitation and leadership skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes in priorities
  • Gas Power Technology tools knowledge:  PLM, GE Controls Toolsets, Gensuite
  • ISO 9001:2008 familiarity
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified

About Us

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $111,200-$185,400 USD Annually.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a Variable Incentive (VIC) bonus of 15%.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
