UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Clinical Services maintains and operates the Policy Integration Management System (PIMS), which serves as the source of truth for UHC's clinical requirements. An increasing number of UHC systems and processes, including strategic initiatives such as Benefits Digitization, Intelligent Acceleration, and AHIP, leverage these critical data assets to ensure appropriate services are available to UHC members. These services are driven by medical policies that adhere to industry standards and clinical guidelines.
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Business Analyst with strong hands-on data engineering, SQL development, and cloud database expertise to support Enterprise Clinical Data initiatives, including reporting, analytics, and data integration. This role will support technical requirements analysis, database view design, DDL validation, SQL logic development, Python-based automation, and Azure cloud environment coordination. The role serves as a critical bridge between business and technology, partnering closely with clinical stakeholders, data engineers, cloud platform teams, and analytics teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and reliable data solutions.
This role plays a critical part in enabling the effective use of clinical data to support business operations and improve healthcare outcomes.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop, analyze, and validate complex SQL queries across PostgreSQL and other relational database platforms, including joins, subqueries, window functions, aggregations, views, stored logic, and performance-sensitive data retrieval patterns
• Design, review, and support database views, materialized views, DDLs, schemas, indexes, constraints, and table structures required for clinical data ingestion, transformation, and reporting use cases
• Partner with database engineering teams to support PostgreSQL database development, data modeling, query optimization, execution plan review, indexing strategies, and performance tuning
• Translate business and clinical requirements into technical specifications, source-to-target mappings, data rules, validation logic, and data quality acceptance criteria
• Build and maintain Python scripts for data profiling, file processing, automation, reconciliation, validation, and repeatable data pipeline support
• Support Azure cloud-based data environments, including cloud-hosted databases, secure data movement, environment configuration validation, access coordination, deployment readiness, and collaboration with Azure platform teams

Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in SQL development, relational database analysis, and production data support
• 4+ years of experience working with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar relational database platforms, with preference for strong PostgreSQL experience
• 4+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role, facilitating and documenting requirements from both business and IT stakeholders
• Experience creating, reviewing, and validating database views, functions, procedures, DDL scripts, schemas, tables, indexes, constraints, and data model changes
• Experience writing advanced SQL for data analysis, troubleshooting, reconciliation, validation, reporting, and performance-sensitive queries
• Experience using Python or similar scripting languages for automation, data validation, file processing, data profiling, or pipeline support
• Experience working in Azure cloud or similar cloud-based data environments, including cloud database services, secure data access, environment coordination, and deployment support
• Solid understanding of database design principles, data modeling concepts, data quality practices, and enterprise data governance expectations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting healthcare, clinical policy, prior authorization, benefits, or enterprise data platform initiatives
• Experience reviewing or coordinating database deployment scripts, release packages, migration scripts, and environment promotion activities across lower and production environments
• Proven excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, technical curiosity, and strong attention to detail

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
