The Technical Architect will oversee Salesforce solution architecture, guide development teams, ensure project quality, and manage technical risks, delivering enterprise-scale Salesforce implementations in the Health & Life Sciences sector.
Penrod is a dynamic, high-growth global consulting firm specializing in digital transformation and operational excellence across the Health & Life Sciences sector. We partner with leading healthcare systems to drive value through strategic technology implementations, data enablement, and change management. We pride ourselves on delivering measurable results and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Technical Architect to serve as the definitive owner of our solution's technical success and a key partner in our clients' transformational journeys. This role sits at the heart of our project's technical decision-making, translating functional requirements into robust, scalable, and secure Salesforce solutions within the Health & Life Sciences sector. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in Salesforce platform architecture with strong leadership capabilities to guide development teams and ensure the quality of our deliverables. This is a strategic role that requires you to balance architectural vision with hands-on technical oversight, serving as the ultimate guardian of project technical quality while mentoring teams and advising senior project leadership.
What you will do
- Define and own the architectural vision for complex Salesforce projects, making all major technical decisions including data model design, integration patterns, security frameworks, and non-functional requirements.
- Translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions that align with client business objectives and industry best practices.
- Provide final sign-off on all technical designs, architecture trade-offs, and deviation requests, ensuring every decision supports the project's long-term technical health and scalability.
- Maintain and evolve the technology roadmap in partnership with clients, proactively identifying and recommending emerging technologies, new tooling, and long-term scalability options to ensure solutions remain at the forefront of the industry.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to Lead Consultants and Project Managers, using deep expertise to navigate challenges with complex integrations, technical blockers, and architectural decisions.
- Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to ensure projects stay on track, delivering solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Proactively manage and escalate technical risks and blockers, serving as the primary point of contact for critical technical issues that could impact project success.
- Exercise authority to pause development or escalate issues when non-functional requirements are at risk, accompanied by impact analysis and recommended solutions to resolve issues and unblock progress.
- Lead and mentor development teams, including more junior developers, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality technical work across onshore and nearshore teams.
- Oversee and hold teams accountable to established technical outcomes, coding standards, and architectural principles.
- Review and approve designs from technical specialists (e.g., Data Cloud, Health Cloud, MuleSoft, AI/automation), ensuring all components integrate seamlessly and align with the overall solution architecture.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving within development teams.
- Establish and enforce technical governance frameworks, including code review standards, testing protocols, and deployment practices.
- Ensure solutions adhere to Salesforce best practices, security standards, and regulatory requirements specific to the Health & Life Sciences industry (HIPAA, HL7, FHIR).
- Monitor technical debt and proactively recommend remediation strategies to maintain system performance and maintainability.
- Drive continuous improvement in technical processes, tools, and methodologies across projects.
What we look for
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Salesforce technical architecture and development, with at least 3+ years in a Technical Architect or similar leadership role.
- Deep expertise in Salesforce platform architecture, including Service Cloud, Health Cloud, Sales Cloud, Experience Cloud, and/or other Salesforce products.
- Proven track record of designing and delivering complex, enterprise-scale Salesforce implementations with multiple integrations and custom development components.
- Demonstrated experience within the Health & Life Sciences (HLS) industry, specifically working with hospital systems, payers, life sciences organizations, or large clinical organizations.
- Strong understanding of integration patterns and technologies (REST/SOAP APIs, MuleSoft, middleware platforms, ETL tools).
- Experience with data architecture, including data modeling, data migration strategies, and master data management.
- Proficiency in Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, and declarative Salesforce development tools.
- Active Salesforce certifications required (minimum: Platform Developer I, Application Architect or System Architect).
- Additional relevant certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Technical Architect, Data Architect, Integration Architect, B2C Commerce Architect).
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management discipline and the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams concurrently.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and DevOps practices.
- This role will require roughly 10-15% travel.
