As a Tax Analyst in the Tax Operations team at Apex Silver, you will play a key role in managing tax-related functions for client accounts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing operational support for both domestic and international tax reporting. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams, external vendors, and regulatory bodies to support the accurate and timely execution of tax processes such as 1099, 1042-S, FATCA, and CRS reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Documentation & Processing:

  • Review, process, and maintain tax documentation, including W-8, W-9, and other forms required for tax reporting.
  • Assist in the management of tax status updates and handle exceptions to ensure accurate withholding rates and reporting.
  • Support the onboarding of clients by reviewing their tax forms and ensuring compliance with IRS and FATCA requirements.

  

Tax Reporting:

  • Collaborate in the preparation and submission of U.S. tax forms such as 1099 and 1042-S to clients and the IRS.
  • Assist with FATCA and CRS reporting, ensuring all necessary information is collected, validated, and reported to the relevant tax authorities.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure proper withholding and remittance of taxes based on client account status, income codes, and applicable treaty benefits.

  

Data Management & Reconciliation:

  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of tax data related to withholding, payments, and filings.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tax-related transactions, ensuring data integrity for reporting purposes.
  • Process Improvements:
  • Participate in projects aimed at automating or improving tax operations processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process changes and system upgrades related to tax operations.

Client Support:

  • Provide tax-related support to clients and internal business partners, addressing inquiries about tax withholding, documentation, and reporting.
  • Assist in responding to regulatory or client audits and resolving discrepancies in tax data or filings.

  

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with IRS, FATCA, and CRS regulations, staying informed of changes in tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and escalate issues to management for resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in tax operations, brokerage, or financial services, preferably within a operations environment.
  • Familiarity with U.S. tax reporting (1099, 1042-S), FATCA, and CRS regulations.
  • Experience with tax forms (W-8, W-9) and withholding rules.

  

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience working with tax or financial systems (e.g., IRS FIRE, brokerage platforms).
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and their impact on brokerage operations.
  • SQL / Python / DATA querying experience is a plus.
