Position Overview:
The SVP, Software Engineering is responsible for defining and executing the technical vision and multi‑year roadmap for CCM’s lending platform, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient systems across the mortgage lifecycle. This leader oversees platform architecture, data and AI capabilities, ecosystem integrations, engineering standards, and operational reliability. The SVP, Software Engineering partners closely with business, risk, and compliance stakeholders to align technology with enterprise objectives while developing a high‑performing engineering organization grounded in accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for CCM’s lending platform across origination, secondary, and operations considering scale, change and resilience.
- Architect scalable, secure, and resilient systems leveraging microservices, APIs, and event streaming; harden SLOs/SLA/SI as first-class requirements.
- Enforce standards for secure-by-design, code quality, observability, and reliability (CICD, IaC, canary/blue-green, chaos/resiliency testing).
- Evolve core platform capabilities: borrower & LO workflow, pricing & eligibility, product & terms, disclosures/closing, conditions/clear-to-close, collateral/valuation, compliance rules, and QC/post-close.
- Integrate and optimize the mortgage ecosystem (e.g., LOS, PPE, AUS, credit/VOE/VOI/VOA, eClose/eNote/eVault, CRM/marketing automation, servicing/boards, document management & OCR).
- Advance data architecture to enable analytics, secondary hedging, risk, compliance, and decision support.
- Build and manage predictable, metric-driven delivery using a product engineering operating model (OKRs, quarterly planning, trunk-based development, service ownership).
- Uplevel platform reliability (SRE practices, alerting, runbooks, incident response, postmortems) and reduce tech debt via targeted remediation programs.
- Partner with InfoSec, Risk, and Compliance to meet/regiment controls (GLBA, SOC 2, SOX where applicable, vendor due diligence), and align to MISMO and investor requirements.
- Collaborate with Capital Markets, Retail Sales, Operations, Compliance, and Marketing to shape product direction and translate outcomes (pull-through, cycle time, cost-to-close, buyback risk) into engineering priorities.
- Engage with strategic vendors and investors to ensure interoperability, performance, and contractual compliance.
- Drive cost, performance, and time-to-market gains through platform simplification, reusability, and thoughtful vendor/Build vs. Buy strategies.
- Recruit, scale, and mentor an exceptional engineering leadership bench (Directors, Managers, Staff Engineers, etc.).
- Build high‑performing teams by hiring strong talent, providing effective coaching, and empowering emerging leaders with the autonomy and support they need to succeed.
- Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, inclusion, and continuous improvement, prioritizing outcomes over output.
- Model servant leadership and high standards.
- Create clear career paths, growth frameworks, and succession plans across the engineering org.
- Apply AI/ML and rules engines to underwriting automation, document classification, condition clearing, fraud detection, and borrower/LO copilot experiences—balancing innovation with compliance and model governance.
- Establish guardrails for data privacy, bias/toxicity prevention, model monitoring, and auditability.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 15+ years overall software engineering experience, with 10+ years leading engineering managers and large-scale platforms.
- 6+ years in executive engineering leadership (2nd/3rd-line management) delivering complex, high-availability enterprise products at scale.
- Demonstrated success modernizing legacy systems to cloud-native architectures (microservices, containers, Kubernetes, event streaming, API-first).
- High-level experience building data-intensive systems (streaming, ETL/ELT, lakehouse, dimensional models) supporting analytics, risk, and operations.
- Experience integrating with the mortgage technology ecosystem (e.g., LOS, PPE, AUS, credit/verification, eClose/eVault, servicing, CRM/MA), preferred.
- AI/ML engineering experience (retrieval-augmented generation, rules + ML hybrid decisioning, model governance), preferred.
- Experience with Azure or AWS, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL, Graph, and modern frontend frameworks, preferred.
- Familiarity with MISMO data standards and investor/agency guidelines and awareness of CFPB/FFIEC/GLBA considerations, preferred.
- Proven ability to partner with Product, UX, Security, and Compliance to deliver regulated software (audit trails, retention, entitlements, privacy).
- Excellent executive communication to translate business outcomes into engineering roadmaps and represent engineering at the C-suite and Board level.
