ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a transformational leader to architect and lead our newly created Compliance Advisory & Risk function. This is a rare opportunity to build a best-in-class strategic advisory compliance organization from the ground up at an innovative, growth-oriented bank.

As Head of Compliance Advisory & Risk, you will design and implement a strategic advisory model that separates compliance thought leadership from operational execution. You will lead a team of professionals across BSA/AML, Consumer Compliance, Fraud, and Fair Lending, providing regulatory interpretation, risk frameworks, and business partnership to enable innovation while managing compliance risk.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Strategic Leadership & Organization Design

  • Architect and build Compliance Advisory & Risk function implementing strategic advisory model that separates thought leadership from operational execution
  • Lead team of four senior level advisors
  • Develop cross-functional advisory frameworks spanning all compliance domains
  • Create risk appetite framework and risk tolerance statements for enterprise compliance
  • Design playbooks and standards that Operations organization executes
  • Partner effectively with peer Operations and Governance functions

Business Partnership & Regulatory Advisory

  • Serve as trusted strategic compliance advisor to C-suite, business leaders and fintech partner
  • Provide proactive regulatory guidance on new products, fintech partnerships, and strategic initiatives
  • Conduct pre-launch compliance assessments for fintech partnerships and innovative products
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable business guidance
  • Balance innovation enablement with prudent risk management
  • Sign off on high-risk partnership risk assessments

Regulatory & Risk Management

  • Monitor regulatory landscape across BSA/AML, consumer protection, fraud, and fair lending
  • Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance across all compliance domains
  • Oversee enterprise compliance risk assessments (BSA/AML, Consumer Compliance, Fraud, Fair Lending)
  • Lead regulatory examinations (FDIC and state regulators) for Advisory scope

Executive Engagement

  • Present compliance risk landscape and strategy to management Risk Oversight Committee
  • Represent compliance function in senior leadership forums
  • Collaborate with C Suite on strategic initiatives

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop four senior-level domain experts and their teams
  • Build cohesive advisory culture focused on business partnership and strategic thinking
  • Foster cross-domain collaboration and knowledge sharing across Advisory organization
  • Develop talent pipeline and succession planning for critical roles

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience

  • 15+ years progressive experience in financial services compliance with demonstrated leadership
  • Experience across multiple compliance domains (BSA/AML, Consumer Compliance, Fraud, Fair Lending) - not single-domain specialization
  • Senior compliance leadership at financial institution, preferably fintech partner bank
  • Track record building or transforming compliance programs and organizational structures
  • Successful regulatory examination management (OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, state regulators)
  • Experience with fintech partnerships
  • Experience managing executive-level leaders and building high-performing teams

Technical Expertise

  • Deep regulatory knowledge across Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, consumer protection regulations (TILA, RESPA, ECOA, UDAAP, Reg E)
  • Understanding fraud prevention, fair lending, and CRA compliance requirements
  • Ability to interpret novel regulatory questions without clear precedent
  • Understanding of fintech business models and their compliance implications
  • Risk assessment and risk appetite framework development experience
  • Open to technology first approach to solve scalability

Leadership & Communication

  • Executive presence and credibility with C-suite and regulatory agencies
  • Proven presentation skills (Risk Committee or Audit Committee experience)
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex regulatory issues into clear, actionable business guidance
  • Collaborative leadership style with ability to influence across organizational boundaries
  • Business partnership orientation - proven ability to enable growth while managing risk – “yes, if”
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
