About the Role 

The Athletic is looking for a Supervising Producer to join our growing video team. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for one of the fastest-growing brands in sports, an innate love of storytelling, and the ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish. 

This role will be tasked with managing The Athletic’s growing Creative Studios business. This Supervising Producer will lead production on commercially supported video projects, which may include field production, event coverage, and in-studio content. This role will oversee and guide video editors, work with leaders from our newsroom, and serve as the final set of eyes on all commercially supported video. The ideal candidate will be a proactive idea-generation machine, must be enthusiastic about amplifying The Athletic’s newsroom to reach new audiences, and be collaborative about working across departments, including video, digital editorial, programming and social. Candidates with experience working in sponsored editorial content, or branded content in the sports space will stand out. 

Responsibilities

  • Pre-production collaboration with the digital newsroom.
  • Work with Strategy & Operations team to respond to RFPs, including pitching original video concepts.
  • Book and manage freelance production specialists, including field crews, video editors and post-production.
  • Manage production budgets, ensuring projects remain on-time and on-budget.
  • Review edits of commercially supported video content.
  • Ensure adherence to The Athletic’s style guides and editorial standards in all videos.
  • Field production and some light video editing may be required.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in video production, preferably in sports, sponsored video, or branded content.
  • Strong freelancer network.
  • The ability to identify and book freelance talent.
  • Must have experience editing in Adobe Premiere.
  • Basic proficiency in color correction, audio mixing preferred.
  • Experience fostering a culture of creativity and experimentation. 
  • A track record of setting and exceeding both individual and team goals. 
  • Exceptional organizational and skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • This position is fully remote.

The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
