Overview & Responsibilities

The Steam Turbine and Gas Expander Structural Analyst within Ebara Elliott Energy’s Research and Development (R&D) is responsible for contributing to comprehensive design and development of steam turbines and gas expanders throughout the products' engineering life cycle, from feasibility to implementation and qualification phases. A graduate level (bachelor science minimum) is preferred for this role, which is tasked with applying advanced turbomachinery structural analytics to validate designs to real world engineering challenges. He or she is expected to be a cross functional team member of Ebara Elliott Energy’s R&D department that develops and integrates new and existing technologies within industrial process steam turbines and gas expanders.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To apply accrued technical knowledge and experience in the individual or participative plan and execution of engineering projects that precipitate designs, application and test for products, contracts, systems or processes related to structural design of steam turbine and gas expander parts and support systems.

BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE

  • BS degree in engineering (MS preferred)

  • 3+ years of experience in structural design and analysis of machinery/complex systems with moving parts (turbine experience of some sort of rotating equipment preferred).

  • Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS) and other structural codes. 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in structural analysis and thermodynamics.

  • Capable of providing technical & programmatic direction and expertise in assignments. 

  • Capable of communicating clearly and effectively and utilizing basic management principles. 

  • Supporting team developments to turn client and market needs into steam turbine and gas expander design and development solutions.

  • Demonstrated effective judgement and independence of action.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Plans, budgets, schedules and performs engineering assignments toward specified objectives within allocated time, schedule, cost and constraint established by supervision.

  • Implements analytical, experimental and application programs for product improvement and development.

  • Co-ordinates and communicates with all related departments to ensure proper achievement of specific objectives.

  • Independently initiates, develops, applies and tests designs for new products, special applications/systems and existing products/systems improvements.

  • Independently plans, prepares and executes experimental programs for the development of new or existing products, shop order tests, design procedures. method or systems and issue applicable documentation.

  • Initiates change to existing component designs and selections as required for shop orders product improvements, manufacturing considerations and field modifications 

  • Responsible for planning, organizing and completion of major elements of the technical plan which may be performed by junior grade associates.

  • Provides participative direction to those performing the assignment in the calculation and analysis of data and final reporting, 

  • Provides technical information, co-ordinates and follows up in intra/inter- departmental activities to ensure conformance to design and quality standards.

  • Approves layouts and drawings for assigned projects or shop order tests, issues appropriate documentation and informs supervision of activity status.

  • Provides specialized technical support/information to Sales, Project Management, Marketing and Service as assigned.

  • Provides innovation and original ideas. Collaborates with the corporate patent department on new steam turbine and gas expander application/user requirements. Submits technical papers for publication.

  • Maintains awareness of new and state-of-the-art technology, competitive intelligence and new steam turbine and gas expander applications/user requirements.

  • Administers capital and inter-departmental programs as assigned by supervision.

  • Maintains knowledge of company objectives and technical plan as applied to assignment and related products/systems/functions.

  • Participates in Product Management Team activity on specific assignments.

  • Promotes, implements and reflects productivity and quality ideas as relates to assigned function.

  • Pursues a personal career development plan prepared in conjunction with supervision.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.

  • Responsible for documenting analysis procedures in Work Instructions.
