The Role
As a Strategic Sourcing Technology Sub-Category Lead at Block, you will lead transformative sourcing strategies across our most business critical spend categories, including Data and Analytics, Enterprise SaaS, Know Your Customer, and Telecom. You will own and architect category strategies that align with long-term company priorities, leveraging advanced sourcing methods, supplier partnerships, and financial forecasting to unlock sustained value. You will partner cross-functionally with senior leaders in Engineering, Finance, and Legal to shape sourcing strategy, drive savings, optimize supplier portfolios, and ensure Block's technology investments are scalable and cost-efficient. You should have strong leadership, communication and analytical skills and a proven ability to manage complex processes across a series of business partners. This is an individual contributor role and will report to the Global Technology Procurement Lead. This is a fully remote position.
You Will
  • Lead category-level strategic planning efforts at Block through: Heavy focus on sourcing (via best class sourcing methodologies) Contract negotiation, Risk mitigation, Ongoing management and performance of supplier relationships
  • Drive adoption of external best practices, leveraging market intelligence, your network, and internal data to evolve Block's sourcing posture.
  • Advance Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) programs with Tier 1 vendors to ensure governance, strategic alignment, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish partnerships with important senior business partners aimed at identifying, understanding and supporting their roadmap
  • Own and execute high-stakes negotiations in collaboration with business partners(e.g., ELAs, cloud commitments, license agreements), using advanced levers like benchmarking, financial modeling, and usage forecasting.
  • Identify and realize cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities and build a culture of long-term savings on procurement costs without compromising supply assurance or quality
  • Lead end-to-end supplier lifecycle management, including selection, onboarding, performance optimization, and offboarding, with a focus on risk mitigation and value creation.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with SOX, TPRM, and audit requirements, integrating sourcing processes into the broader risk and governance framework
  • Mentor and support junior sourcing team members, sharing knowledge and helping build a culture of inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to team and org-wide sourcing capability, sharing negotiation tactics, commercial frameworks, and best-in-class sourcing methodologies.

You Have
  • Minimum of 10+ years of strategic procurement or supplier management experience; in a high-growth technology environment preferred
  • At least 5+ years in a Technology Category management position
  • Experience leading large-scale software optimization initiatives, such as app rationalization and license optimization.
  • Proven track record of achieving strong year-over-year savings, expertise in contract negotiations, and delivering measurable, valuable results aligned with organizational KPIs.
  • Expertise in leveraging data and financial models to shape negotiation tactics, performance measurement, and sourcing ROI
  • Expertise in building sourcing strategies that tie directly to business goals, with a focus on TCO, supplier performance, and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to successfully navigate in unstructured and fast paced environments while garnering trust with internal customers.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, Legal, and Engineering at senior levels

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
