Role Summary

As a Staff Software Engineer in our newly formed App Foundations Squad, you will define the architecture and development plan of the next generation of our iOS mobile applications (hims and hers), building prototypes to rapidly prove out the concept and then assembling the team that can deliver a best-in-class mobile experience for our customers.

You’ll act as the technical leader for this new team, owning key technical decisions and collaborating closely with product, design, and platform teams to design not only a new app, but the complete set of mobile technologies to take Hims & Hers into the next decade. You’ll define architecture, drive engineering best practices, and mentor teammates to raise the bar on code quality, reliability, and execution. Your work will directly impact how customers access care, manage their health, and engage with our platform.

You Will:
  • Act as a technical owner for our new native iOS initiative, driving execution, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring long-term reliability and impact.

  • Break down complex problems into actionable implementation plans and guide architectural decisions aligned with long-term strategy.

  • Design scalable, maintainable mobile solutions with minimal rework, full test coverage and clear documentation.

  • Work in close collaboration with our web team to identify best practices in balancing native mobile user experiences with web views and flows.

  • Help to define the API contracts which will allow our mobile app to deliver best in class user experience while not sacrificing speed of delivery of new product categories within the mobile app

  • Collaborate with our analytics team to define and implement robust observability (e.g., monitoring, logging, alerting) alongside key KPIs and SLOs to ensure system reliability and performance.

  • Own code quality through thoughtful reviews, maintainable architecture, and proactive technical debt reduction.

  • Collaborate with Product and Design during discovery to define MVPs, validate feasibility, and drive customer-centric solutions.

  • Coordinate with backend, data, and platform teams for seamless integrations and aligned execution.

  • Mentor engineers and promote best practices in design, testing, CI/CD, and team rituals.

  • Help migrate our existing mobile and front-end teams from a “build features as they are requested” to “build platforms which support all features we currently and will support.”

You Have:
  • 8–10+ years of experience delivering production-grade software solutions in native iOS

  • Deep experience with the best iOS development technologies, including Swift, SwiftData/Core Data and GraphQL, as well as cutting-edge UX frameworks like SwiftUI, Rive and Lottie.

  • Solid understanding of web performance optimization within the iOS ecosystem.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate ambiguity through iterative experimentation.

  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment and driving high-impact solutions from concept through execution.

What Success Looks Like:

  • You reliably and quickly deliver prototypes to prove out architectural design, product direction and mobile.

  • You help drive a culture of code quality, accountability, and collaboration by mentoring peers and sharing technical insights.

  • You successfully build a team which will develop our first fully native mobile experience

  • You lead your squad to take ownership of the entire mobile experience, championing reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

  • You identify technical risks early and help improve the sustainability and scalability of team practices and architecture.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):
  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

  • Offsite team retreats
